Meghan Markle's Former Make-Up Artist Reveals Her One Beauty Rule

With her wedding to Prince Harry on the horizon, Meghan Markle is staying true to her signature style, mixing affordable high street brands (hey there, Marks and Spencer) with high end labels and favoured Canadian designers. She’s also maintained her low-key approach to beauty, favouring fresh-faced make-up for official events and wearing her hair in loose waves or a laidback up-do.

According to Meghan’s former make-up artist and hairstylist Lydia F. Sellers, the ‘royal effect’ has barely impacted upon the star’s trademark look. ‘She’s done such a good job of maintaining her sense of self amongst the spotlight,’ the stylist, who worked with Meghan for two years, told Refinery29. ‘Even now, her look has stayed the same […] she’s so confident with herself and her look, and she sticks with that.'

For shoots or events, it seems that Meghan only had one major request. ‘Every time I’d do her make-up, she’d say, “Can we just make sure my freckles are peeking through? I don’t want a ton of foundation,”’ Sellers said, explaining ‘It was more about the amount of product that went on her skin and keeping it really fresh and dewy, rather than caking it on. So I’d use the Armani Luminous Silk Foundation with a Beautyblender because it’s really easy to sheer out. ‘Indeed, in a previous interview with Allure, Meghan revealed that her ‘pet peeve’ is when ‘[her] skin tone is changed and my freckles are airbrushed out of a photo shoot.’

‘Her approach is very effortless. She just wants to look like a better version of herself. That’s something she believes firmly in,’ Sellers added.

As for the big day itself? By Sellers’ reckoning, Meghan might opt to keep her hair down just like future sister in law Kate Middleton (all the better for the tiara, we imagine). ‘We styled her hair down a lot – that’s the look she gravitates toward,’ she said.
