Let’s face it, sometimes on long car journeys or when we just need a little bit of free time to get that to-do list done, a tablet for kids is the only option to keep children entertained. And one tablet specifically designed with little ones in mind? The Amazon Fire Kids series. If you’re considering purchasing one and want to make a saving, Amazon’s Black Friday sale has some great discounts right now.

Our parenting experts tried and tested the Amazon Fire and Amazon Kindle range, looking at elements such as how easy they were for kids to use, and if they stood the tantrum test, not to mention what features like the camera and any extra apps that added value. One thing our parents found out. Is Amazon Fire Kids Tablets are designed to be durable, safe, and customisable to grow alongside your child.

When does Black Friday end?

Black Friday lands right at the end of the November this year on the 29th, so it's been a long wait to until pay day for many who want to make the most of the huge savings before Christmas. A lot of retailers including Amazon started Black Friday sales as early as November 21st, but not to worry, even though the big day is on Friday, Amazon and other retailers like Yoto players, LEGO, and Tonies and Tonieboxes continue its discounts across the weekend, with many final discounts ending on Cyber Monday, December 2nd, as final stock is left.

Are Amazon tablets cheaper on Prime Day or Black Friday?

Amazon tablets tend to hit their lowest prices during Prime Day and Black Friday, but Prime Day often has a slight edge for the steepest discounts on Amazon devices, like Fire tablets. Black Friday deals cover a broader range of brands, but they may sell out quickly due to higher demand. If you’re eyeing an Amazon Fire, Prime Day is your best bet, but keep Black Friday in mind if you miss out.

Best overall

Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Tablet - one of the best Kids Tablets for this Black FridayAmazon
Price: £94.99 (was £149.99)

Designed with little ones in mind, the Amazon Fire HD 8 Kids Tablet comes with a tough, drop-proof case that can take on all the knocks and bumps from curious hands. Throw in a one-year subscription to Amazon Kids+, and your child gets access to a treasure trove of games, books, videos, and apps – all safe, ad-free, and perfect for keeping them entertained on road trips or during the quiet wind-down moments before bed.

Rebecca, a tester from our sister site Mother & Baby, was impressed with the battery life and memory: "The battery life is impressive, easily lasting through long car journeys with a full film viewing. Performance-wise, the tablet handles apps and games swiftly enough to keep impatient kids satisfied. Storage hasn’t been an issue; we’ve downloaded plenty of apps and films without any problems. Connectivity is seamless, and it stays connected to WiFi without a hitch."

What we love most, though, is the Parent Dashboard. It’s super straightforward, lets you manage screen time, control what content they see, and even create up to four separate profiles – making it ideal whether you have one child or a little crew to juggle. While it’s best for younger kids (5-7 years is the sweet spot), it’s a solid choice for all ages bar your moody mid-teens (think 14 and up!). And with Black Friday making it so much more affordable, plus that reassuring two-year guarantee, you really can’t go wrong.

Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro Tablet - one of the best Kids Tablets for this Black FridayAmazon
Price: £109.99 (was £199.99)

If you’ve got school-age kids ready for a more “grown-up” gadget, the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro Tablet is a fab choice. Its big 10.1-inch screen makes everything from games to videos feel that little bit more immersive. With a year’s Amazon Kids+ subscription, there’s a wide variety of games, audiobooks, and videos to explore – and they can even make voice and video calls to friends and family.

What really wins parents over is the control it gives you. Mother & Baby tester Gabby loved that, “I could download the Amazon kids app on my phone, where I could add time limits to enable and disable specific features like web browsers where certain websites can be blocked. The time limits work wonders on school nights when trying to negotiate a balance of screen time and school work.” So, from setting time limits to blocking websites, this tablet strikes the perfect balance between fun and responsibility.

Is there a difference between Amazon Fire and Kids Edition?

The main difference between the regular Amazon Fire and the Amazon Fire for Kids. The tablet includes the same core hardware but is bundled with a durable case, a two-year replacement guarantee, and a year of Amazon Kids+ subscription. It's essentially the Fire tablet reimagined for the messes and mishaps of childhood.

What can a Kids Kindle Fire do?

The kids series of the Kindle Fire is designed for safe and educational fun. It supports learning apps, kid-friendly games, videos, and eBooks. What’s useful is that parents can control screen time and content via Amazon Kids+ for a curated experience that's both fun and age-appropriate. But be aware one mum tester found when she was outside of a Wi-Fi connection on the Amazon Fire HD 10 Kids Pro Tablet, she was unable to change the length of time limit when it unfortunately ran out on a car journey

Can adults read on Kindle Kids?

It’s always great to find out that the smart tech you invested in for your child can get extra use when they’re bored of it. While Kindle Kids is geared toward younger readers, it’s essentially a standard Kindle with parental controls. Parents can simply disable Kids mode and enjoy it as a regular Kindle eReader. But if you're looking for screen-free toys then you may want to consider the Yoto Player or a Toniebox, there's some great savings in Black Friday for both.

How much is an Amazon Kids Kindle subscription?

Amazon Kids+ starts at £4.99 per month for Prime members and £6.99 per month for non-members. Family plans covering multiple children are also available at a slightly higher cost and can be unlocked across a range of Amazon devices.

How do I use Amazon Kids if I have Prime?

As a Prime member, you get access to Amazon Kids+, but you'll need to download the app and set up profiles for your children. You can then customize their experience with age-appropriate content, the age brackets range between ages three to five, ages six to eight and ages nine to 12. This is useful as some parent testers felt the Amazon Fire 8 was fine for their five-year-old but too difficult to navigate for their three-year-old, despite it being recommended for three- seven year-olds.
