I’m A Shopping Editor And This Is My Favourite Accessory Of All Time

Yes, you can wear sunglasses all year round.

Everyone has their 'thing', my flatmate loves handbags, a friend loves berets, another collects trainers. Mine? It's sunglasses. For years I have been adding to my collection from second-hand steals and eBay finds to high-street pairs, choice frames from independent brands like Hot Futures, or the odd designer style. I confess have zero willpower when it comes to sunglasses.

Aside from the obvious function of shading your eyes from the sun, I find there are many pros to a good pair of shades. Firstly they'll hide how tired you are. Stayed up too late last night? No problem, simply disguise the eyes. Secondly, you'd be hard pushed to find an outfit that can't be improved by the addition of sunnies. And lastly, they double as a hairband. I am terrible at doing hair, curls instantly drop out and I can't do any fancy up-dos. Basically if it's not a scruffy top knot or standard pony tail, I'm out.

To get around the lack of interesting hair styles, popping on a pair of sunglasses (in my mind) works as a perfect multi-functioning accessory. Plus, if you love a pair but they don't suit you, you can still wear them. My top tip? Avoid metal nose pads (the bit that sits on the bridge of your nose) as these can get caught in your hair.

Over the years I've developed a habit of wearing sunglasses on my head come rain or shine, rarely wearing them for their actual purpose. So much so, I now feel completely bare without a pair of shades perched on my head. And yes, I know this if actually very bad for the frames as it apparently stretches them, but, I've found this is easily fixed with a quick tighten with a teeny tiny screwdriver - an essential to any good tool box if you ask me.

I could go on about my love of sunglasses but, instead, here are some that are on my wish-list right now...
