If you think autumn means resigning yourself to jumpers and jeans for the foreseeable future, think again. Or, at least, think back to 2019. Topshop dropped a brown satin slip skirt and the rest, as they say, was history. Monikh Dale wore it on Instagram, the whole world went crazy, and it sold out in a flash. (It was so popular that it eventually launched in 11 colours and prints.) A lot has changed since the good old days of 2019, but our love for the slip skirt has stayed exactly the same.
And thank goodness because it's due a revival - and everyone seems to be wearing one. Lisa Aiken packed hers forMilan Fashion Week, wearing the black mid-calf style with a breezy button-down shirt. Need further persuasion? How about the fact that the coolest cool girl, Zoë Kravitz, already backed the slip earlier this year?
Giving an effortless nod to the '90s with a vest top and sandals, Kravitz wore the minty green slip in New York. What we love about this skirt style – aside from the easy-to-throw-on aesthetic – is the fact it's a cross-seasonal buy that'll work so hard in your wardrobe, you'll end up wondering why you ever let it slip out of sight. Of course, we all know this was due to the attachment issues we had with our sweatpants during 2020 (and, er, beyond).
Now, though, we're ready to embrace the 'get dressed up at any given opportunity' life and put on clothes that make us look and feel great. And influencers are making a strong case for the autumn slip skirt. Polly Sayer has the perfect equation of slip skirt + blazer + chunky boots and it's all the inspiration you need to fall back in love with the midi. (The Rixo leopard skirt is also available to shop below, FYI.)
Lois Sterling also backs the slip as an autumn wonder buy - and we think wearing a white version with a full monochrome ensemble is a back-to-worklook to take note of. Whether you wear the slip with a blazer, a cami top for after-dark or a cosy cashmere knit, it's the do-it-all reliable style that'll never let you down.
