When autumn swings around and temperatures drop, you'll be tempted to reach for a winter coat. I would resist, however, for as long as possible because you know, once it's on, it won't come off until March (possibly even April). Instead, why not fraternise with a slightly lighter but still weather-appropriate cover-up? And this season, Bella Hadid has already decided which one you should choose to look on-point (and optimally warm).
Spotted on the streets of Paris, Hadid packed a Saint Laurent leather bomber jacket - an oversized style with silver press studs as fastenings with a collar that could be flipped up or left open - that semaphored plenty of je ne sais quoi as she greeted fans with a wave.
So good was this jacket that she wore it not once but twice in the City of Lights. For her first outfit, the model slipped her bomber over a leather two-piece for a triple threat kind of take, styling the look with mid-calf boots, shades and a kitchen-sink tote bag from Saint Laurent. For its second outing, she paired it with a plunging halter top, pin-striped trousers and spectacles for a naughty-but-nice kind of mood.
Hadid's is around £5,000 but, for a more accessible version, the high street has invested heavily in leather bomber jackets for autumn 2024. Reiss has several iterations, which have already proved to be strong performers, with a few sizes even selling out. The brand's latched-collar bomber jacket, available in berry and tan, is perfect for toughening up black work trousers or wearing half zipped over baggy jeans. AllSaints' Rowan funnel-neck leather jacket is another brilliant option in black, this time with the stretchy waistband that's a signature of a classic bomber.
Whether you style them with more of the good stuff to really go hell for leather, however, is entirely up to you.
