You only need to take a quick glance at the Beckham clan’s collective Instagram accounts to see that Nicola Peltz, who got engaged to Brooklyn last month, is already part of the family. Now, however, she has had the ultimate seal of approval: wearing her future mother-in-law’sdesigns.
Peltz is quickly turning into something of a Victoria Beckham poster girl (note, not all of Brooklyn’s girlfriends get this kind of access, although Hana Cross did also get the VB wardrobe treatment). Peltz wore a sherbet yellow silk-georgette midi dress with fluttering ruffles from the SS20 collection for the engagement pictures (size 14 is currently still available – and on sale, for £580 – at Net-A-Porter). And this week, while holidaying in Italy with the Beckhams, she has also been seen in two floral midi dresses: a rose print design with chain detailing and a purple number with, what the Victoria Beckham website describes as a ‘bohemian wallpaper floral’ print both from the Pre-Fall 2020 collection.
‘Looking so amazing,’ wrote Victoria in a caption of the rose print dress (the love-in is mutual: Peltz responding with four heart-eyed emojis). ‘Thanks for letting me wear your clothes everyday,’ Peltz captioned a picture of the purple dress on her Stories. ‘I love you’. She also loyally hashtagged it #VBPAW20, suggesting the newest addition to the family is already astute in the workings of Brand Beckham.
While most of us don’t have the luxury of instant access to Victoria’s wardrobe (we can dream…), there are real life lessons to take away. A long-sleeved midi dress has swiftly become a do-it-all style for women across the style spectrum who want ease and elegance in equal measure. Victoria knows this; polished pragmatism has become something of a signature for her.

Part of the charm of the floral midi dress is its versatility. Victoria has also been spotted in the purple design and Harper has been seen in a custom version of it, proof that they have cross-generational appeal (much like polka dots, which Gwyneth Paltrow and daughter Apple made the case for this week). Twinning, it seems, is back in style. They are also trans-seasonal. So yes, these dresses look great on holiday now, but they will also translate to autumn when styled with knee-high boots, as they are in the lookbook, and a coat. Dress yours down with Birkenstocksnow, dress them up with more VB-approved heels and a statement belt when your diary starts filling up again. They are a savvy investment.
Now only one question remains (well, apart from, where do we get a mother-in-law like that?): will Victoria be making the wedding dress – or more likely, wedding dresses?. Watch this space.
