Married at First Sight UK'sDaniel McKee and Matt Jameson have announced their split. The couple were the nation's favourite after their stint on the popular E4 dating show last year, but they are now going their separate ways after two years together. The couple made history as the first same-sex pairing on the show.
Matt and Daniel shared a joint Instagram post with a photo of themselves to announce the news. In the caption, the pair wrote, 'As you all know, we have been on an incredible adventure together the last two years and we have given ourselves every opportunity to make things work as a couple, but over the last few months we have realised that we are actually better as friends. Break ups are never easy, even when amicable, but we can’t thank you enough for your support and kindness following our journey together.'
However, even though the couple have split, they quickly reassured fans that there is no bad blood between them. The post continued, 'There’s nothing but love and good energy between us, and we feel very lucky to have found each other in our lives. Just sadly not as a couple! And although we are parting ways, we will always continue to support one another.'
Earlier this year, Matt and Daniel seemed like they were happier than ever after sharing plans for a real wedding after getting 'married' on the reality TV show in 2021. In an interview with OK!, the pair said they are very much still in love and thinking about becoming husband and husband officially.
'I would love to do that,' Matt said. 'We were at one of Dan's friend's weddings recently and we got chatting with a wedding planner. Adding, 'It’s definitely something we’re thinking about. I would love it and I know Dan would as well. But we're in no rush. We're embracing what we have together right now.'
On the show, the couples main issue was distance with Daniel living in Ireland whilst Matt lived in Leeds, but the pair seemed to compromise and even ran a business together. Matt told Belfast Live, 'I went in with true intentions to find someone who I could spend the rest of my life with and lo and behold, it worked out just as I hoped, if not better,' he said. ' I met my now husband Matthew who lives in Portstewart with me. He moved over from Leeds to live here on the Causeway Coast and we run Wildbay Retreats together.'
Their Married At First Sight UK co-stars expressed their sadness underneath their Instagram announcement. Alexis Economou commented, ' Sorry to hear this news guys I will forever love you both. Sending you my love.' Whilst AmyChristophers wrote, 'I was hoping this wasn't true. I'm devo I love you guys so much. Here if you need some support but I really hope you're both okay with the decision and if it can be reconciled I pray for that.'
