Married at First Sight UKis the gift that keeps on giving. We’ve had weddings, drama, and messy dinner parties – and it’s only the second week. However, one couple who have hit headlines for all the wrong reasons are Jordon and Alexis. Alexis was paired with Jordon on the show, but their marriage quickly turned sour. Fans of the show just believe Alexis deserves better – and we agree.

Let’s go back to their wedding day - Alexis entered the day very upbeat about meeting her husband but it seemed like this pairing was doomed from the start. It was almost as if at first sight, Jordon was instantly put off. He made it crystal clear stating, ‘My usual type is blonde hair and blue eyes', which has been interpreted by some as a way to say white. (Alexis' mum is Greek Cypriot, and her dad is Dominican.) And horribly, he’s kept on repeating this – even telling Alexis herself she wasn’t his type, which must have been horrendous to hear. Clearly if you go on this show – you must be open to the idea that anyone could appear at that altar.

Their honeymoon in the Maldives was disastrous and Jordan was a shining example of how to gaslight. Watching Jordon list how opposite Alexis was physically to his normal type to her was extremely uncomfortable viewing. You could also see with each thing he listed how upset it made her.

In fact, Paul C Brunson, one of the show’s experts, even revealed he messaged Alexis after this, to apologize for matching the pair. Responding to a fan, who said how difficult it was to watch, he wrote: ‘It was terrible. I even sent her a direct message tonight to apologize. That said, I had little patience for Jordon while we were filming and you’ll clearly hear my opinion about him on Thursday’s commitment ceremony. #MAFSUK.’

The next day when Alexis started to open up to him, Jordon returned the favour by avoiding eye contact. His actions show a complete lack of respect for not only her, but her feelings. On this show you instantly become vulnerable and open with a stranger, so his cold responses would only make her feel worse.

Cracks were evident between the pair on the honeymoon. On Tuesday’s episode, he took Alexis in the water, on a raft attached to a boat - despite knowing she hated the sea and sharks. He was then surprised - and angry - when she was afraid, which led to her shouting and calling him a ‘dickhead’. Alexis herself said all she could have done with was a bit of reassurance from him, which he refused to offer. Evidence that the only person’s feelings he thinks about is his. He said he hated Alexis’ language, and her attitude - but she only acted like that because she was scared.

Ultimately, what fans are noting is that Alexis is being subject to the same stereotypes so often forced upon Black women - of being angry, brash, aggressive - and for many, it’s triggering to watch.

When they later discussed the row, he continued to attack her, and make her feelings feel invalid - classic, textbook gaslighting, manipulating her into thinking she was making a big deal of nothing. He then continued to take issue with her earlier tone, saying - patronisingly - she was a ‘nice girl’ who ‘doesn’t need to speak like that’. He then accused her of trying to make it into an argument. He also said she was reluctant to ‘change’ or ‘listen’, hypocritical when he flat out refused to understand why she was so distressed.

Alexis then explained that the only way she was speaking like that, (which was entirely justified, by the way) was because of the way he made her feel. ‘The last thing I’m going to do is sit here and be told that I am acting aggressive for no reason,’ she said ‘Anyone who knows me knows I’m a very chilled out person. The minute someone fucking pokes me and makes me feel like I need to get my back up and defend myself, I’m going to come at you.’

Predictably, he then said she was erupting over a small thing - yes, it might have started off as just an activity in the sea, but his inability to listen, and the way he’s gaslit her into thinking she’s overreacting, means that it’s become a big thing. It felt horrible to watch her, later in the episode, saying she’s going to become ‘more chill’, when actually, the problem lies with him.

The whole time he has been disrespecting Alexis, but of course, he can’t see it - telling the cameras he doesn’t understand how he makes her feel belittled. In the next episode, Nikita - love her or loathe her - managed to pick up on the fact Nikita seemed upset and reserved at the dinner party. Yes, she kicked off so much she got removed from the show - but she could see the situation Jordon had been putting Alexis in, and, like us, she wasn’t happy about it.

All of this is without mentioning that Jordon was – according to reports from MailOnline - still together his ex-girlfriend for the entirety of the filming process, with the ex only finding out two days before he was on the show… (He has since denied the allegations.)

In a turn of events, by the end of the episode it looked like Alexis and Nikita’s husband Ant were flirting. Yesterday, Channel 4 announced that Nikita was removed from the show. So, does this leave room for Ant to swoop in so Alexis gets her happily ever after? We hope so!
