Tapping! A powerful and transformative way to help aid your emotional state and calm your nervous system.

It involves tapping your body strategically, targeting lots of different sequence points to help reduce stress. It can be done anywhere, at any time!

The wonderful Poppy Delbridge - the Queen of tapping- introduces the ‘rapid tapping’ technique on the Happy Place app. Use it to help manifest happiness, relieve anxiety and to re-centre yourself when life seems to be 100 miles an hour. A session as short as two minutes a day pays dividends, I can attest to that myself.

I factor in a tapping session when I am feeling nervous, it helps me to relax, rebalance and reset my mindset and leads to me feelingmore positive overall.

Here I interview my go-to tapping expert Poppy about the benefits of this fuss-free wellness practice:

How did you discover tapping?

'I was aware of it as a teenager because my parents were into well-being and mindset practises. I really got going with it properly back in 2010 when my mum tapped on me to help me with a break-up. After that, I was hooked because it was this sort of miracle way to manage my emotions and, at a time when I had a busy, high-octane job in the media.'

Why did you create ‘Rapid Tapping’ and how does this differ from traditional tapping?

'For me and my clients initially. In a busy world where self-connection isn’t high on most people's 'to do' lists, I initially wanted to provide fast, effective ‘self-tapping’: rapid routines you can use anywhere, anytime. Traditional tapping (which I also love) is led by a practitioner like myself in a number of sessions, and focusses on healing specific traumatic memories, whereas my approach is more about how we create new ones - even when we feel a bit stuck on how to do that.'

'I’m basically obsessed with how rapid the results are from tapping too - it transforms our mindset- this is the set of beliefs we have about ourselves, our potential and the world. Tapping has the ability to do that for us when thinking alone can’t because it shifts old energy, wakes up the body, and changes our habitual way of thinking quite quickly. It’s mind-blowing!'

What are the benefits of tapping and how has it affected you personally since you began practicing?

'You can use tapping to help you feel better fast in many areas includingboosting your energy, managing anxiety, reducing physical pain and building new beliefs. It’s first and foremost a clinically proven way to become less habitually stressed and anxious and I love the science behind it. Habits are just behaviours, decisions and actions on repeat. These are default responses and we have the power to change these when we say certain affirmations, check how much we believe them and then tap. Personally, I’m much happier when I’m tapping multiple times a day because my whole frequency goes higher! A side effect is that I have manifested more abundance and desires in areas like my love-life and even finances. It’s a compound effect.'

'Tapping brings a sense of peace and calm. When we have busy lives, live in a chaotic world and easily deplete energy, it brings us more joy very quickly. The world of energy psychology has a rigour of research behind it. I put a whole section on the science behind tapping in my book because when we know something is a clinically proven way to transform our lives, we are more likely to give it a go. But also we are becoming more aware of what really matters in life - the way we feel, the vision we have for our life, being present and grateful in the moment. But how do we actually live like this? Practises in the app include tapping, breathwork and meditation - these are the tools we require to make this happen.'

How can a beginner incorporate tapping into their daily routine?

'Start small, see it working, tap more. Each morning just add it into your existing routine first and see how much calmer and grounded you feel. There are lots of routines in the app. Choose a new title based on what you want to feel or what you want to clear, or just repeat your favourite one. Then, when you’re feeling much better overall, you could start using the routines in a more strategic way to create the wildest vision for your life! Because that’s about debunking false beliefs about yourself or ditching old habits that don’t match up. Think of tapping as a game. It’s not hard and it’s actually quite fun once you get started.'

What are your top tips to help people build Happy Habits this month and maintain them?

'Remember that your mind is currently programmed and set to a ‘default’ set of habits based on all your life experiences. If that default is not making you feel good, you just need a system update. You do need to start sometime, so why not today?'

'Neuroscientists tell us that habit creation is easier with daily repetition, so set an alarm on your phone at the same time each day - and tap little and often for the best results.'

'When you start tapping, it can quickly make your body feel awake and more energised, this is good. Move, dance, play music and get your body into it! Expect to feel this way. You will quickly feel better, that’s the beauty of tapping.'

'Watch your words. Say affirmations aloud to seal in any positive energy you feel after tapping because your mind recognises the happy words and obeys the sound of your voice. Speak kindly to yourself each day out loud. Go on try it.'

'Actually use the app! Don’t just download it! There’s so many incredible experts and practises on there. It is possible to wake up and go to sleep feeling fulfilled and content when you use the right tools.'
