Summer is well on the way. So if you think it's time to switch up your nail design, you're not alone. As the sun begins to shine again, we want our nails to match the vibes of the season. While we loved the pastel styles of spring, the latest looks cropping up on our feeds make a case for neon, chrome and vibrant patterns. To get ahead of the game, we've spoken to celebrity nail artist Kim Kim, (an A-lister favourite), who shared a few trends to keep on your radar ahead of summer. And of course, they can be done on all nail shapes!
Colourful Chrome
According, to Kim Kim, metallics are going to be big this year! 'In line with the glazed doughnut finishes we’ve seen, metallic is the natural next step for this trend. More intense than a glaze, metallic can be achieved in bright colours which will be perfect for the summer. Picture pastel metallics for your holiday,' she says. See the proof below.
Seashell Nails
The next design will transport you to the beach. Kim Kim explains, 'seashell nails are an inspiration from beach vacations. They are inspired by what the inside of a shell or oyster looks like. The pearlescent effect elevates a traditional manicure. The secret to the shell finish is to apply a matte top coat on top of a silver chrome polish. As people love the glazed finish, this look is the next innovation. To really stand out, place 3D gel before applying the colour for an abstract texture. Also try the trend with a different metallic chrome effect.'
Bright Outlines
As we approach June, July and August, we hit peak festival season. Kim Kim says, for festival season she is expecting to see colourful and neon shades, and calls this, 'bringing the party to the manicure.' She also adds, 'neon greens and yellows are classics that give you the brightest effect. A trick to making your neon polish really pop is to apply white underneath.'
Pick 'N' Mix
This set has summer written all over it and we are calling it, pick and mix. It combines neon colours with fun patterns to play around with. This design is perfect for your first set of BIAB nails.
Pink and Orange Swirl
It's time to kiss goodbye to dark colours and autumnal tones, we think this look is the perfect way to welcome bright summer nails.
Sweet Fix
3D nail art is one of the hottest trends for the year and this design combines all things sweet.
Colour Overload
French tips will never go out of vogue and they're always being reinvented. This spin on the look flips the classic style thanks to colour gradients and triple swirls.
Touch Of Spring
If you're sad to part ways with spring, opt for a floral set like this one, which has been carefully hand painted.
