The 60s flip has dominated awards season this year. It's a style that most associate with the the 60s, when it came complete with a full fringe and volume in excess. This time, though, the retro flip has an edge. Hairstylist to the stars Larry King is all for the revival.
'The trend feels like it's been gone for a while, so now it's back, it feels really fresh and clean,' says Larry, 'it's modern this time around, the finish is smooth with just a little lift at the crown,' read - no beehive. 'It feels young and energetic. It works brilliantly on a jaw length bob.'
West Side Story's Rachel Zegler debuted a jaw-skimming bob complete with that 60s flip at the Oscars, Billie Eilish flipped her jet black ends at the Grammys and Ariana Grande has been wearing the style non-stop while filming The Voice USA. Zendaya wore the hers at the Valentino show during Paris fashion week.

'The style was made popular by the ultimate style heroines of the 60s,' explains Larry, 'like Jackie Kennedy and Mary Tyler. They defined the decade. Global superstars like Diana Ross and The Supremes sported a version of the style too.'
How To Style The Flip At Home
'It's a great, fresh way to style a bob,' says Larry. 'It works well with anything jaw to shoulder length. It's a simple styling trick that can refresh a cut and make it appear fresh and new.'
Larry recommends a few key players to create the flicky, upward ends. 'Apply My Nanna's Mousse, £19, to wet hair. Smooth the hair out with a good blow dry, using a round brush. Work the hair into either a neat centre or side parting, using the round brush to flick the ends upwards.'
The secret to keeping the look fresh and modern? Make it smooth. 'Use the Flyaway Kit, £19, to sleeken any flyways and stray hairs for a shiny and polished finish.'
