There haven’t been a lot of positives this year, but undoubtedly one of the best things to come out of 2020 has been the incredible selection of new TV series. From gritty dramas to sappy romances, we’ve been spoilt for choice this year.
In a year where we’ve all spent more time than ever at home, apart from our family and friends, TV has played an especially important role, with research commissioned by Freeview showing that 26% of people say that TV has helped them feel less lonely and that 40% admit they’ve watched a series just so they can be involved in the conversation around it (there’s nothing worse than being that guy in the WhatsApp group…).
And so, with TV series like Normal People and Tiger King, taking over our conversations this year, which one came in at the top most-talked-about spot? None other than ITV’s I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! Filmed in the UK at Gwrych Castle in Abergele, the series saw everything from paranormal activity to an early ending and only recently crowned its winner.
Coming in at a close second place wasfan-favourite The Great British Bake Off. With amazing contents like Laura and Lottie, and the adorable friendship between hosts Noel and Matt, its second place spot is really no surprise.
Another huge-hitter this year was the long-awaited series 4 of Netflix’s The Crown. Starring Emma Corrin as Princess Diana and Gillian Anderson as Margaret Thatcher, the new series did not disappoint and has left fans counting down the days until the fifth and final series is released.
The rest of the 22 spots are filled with everything from familiar favourites to sought-after follow-ups to brand-new obsessions. From Emily in Paris to Britain’s Got Talent, Love is Blind to Peaky Blinders, how many of 2020’s most talked about TV series have you seen?
