Filming on season five of Emily In Paris is under way, as fans will already have seen on social media. For the next chapter of her life, Emily Cooper is saying Ciao to Roma, as she swaps the City of Lights for the Eternal City after season four saw her complicated love life enter a new chapter almost 1,000 miles away from her beloved Paris.

Lily Collins, who reprises her role as our favourite stylish American expat, shared a photo of her on a Vespa back in May, writing, ‘Lights, Camera, Amore – Emily In Paris Season 5 is now in production!’ There was also a video of Lily and her co-star Eugenio Franceschini, who plays Emily’s Italian boyfriend Marcello, on the first day of filming.

The show’s creator Darren Star said, ‘Emily’s going to have a presence in Rome. It doesn’t mean she’s not going to be in Paris, but she’s going to have a presence in Rome.’ He added, ‘The cast and crew of Emily In Paris are thrilled to begin filming season five in the Eternal City. From Parisian rooftops to Roman ruins, we can’t wait to share where Emily’s next chapter takes us.’

Darren explained that sending Emily to Italy to open up a new office was born out of his desire to ‘stay ahead of the audience and take them to unexpected places’ and prove ‘the show has the ability to have a bigger footprint’.

What’s in store for Emily in season five?

Lily has already teased that Emily and Marcello’s romance will be explored in the fifth season. ‘Marcello is a whole other adventure that we want for Emily because we ultimately want Emily to be able to have a better work/life balance,’ she said. ‘We want to have Emily be able to smile without condition. We want to see her beyond her vacay mode. And he comes at that perfect time.’ Lily added, ‘I feel like they have a real spark and a real connection and a real romantic connection. A lot of that’s going to continue to play out next season.’

However, Emily's on-off relationship with her neighbour – and ex-not-ex boyfriend Gabriel – is not quite closed. Things between them remains up in the air, after he revealed he is ready to fight for her love after realising that he wants to be with her as season four closed. ‘Unfortunately, Gabriel has to deal with the repercussions of his choice,’ Lily teased.

Who’s back for season five of Emily In Paris?

Lily and cast members Philippine Leroy-Beaulieu (Sylvie Grateau), Ashley Park (Mindy Chen), Lucas Bravo (Gabriel), Samuel Arnold (Julien), Bruno Gouery (Luc), William Abadie (Antoine Lambert), Lucien Laviscount (Alfie), Eugenio Franceschini (Marcello), and Thalia Besson (Genevieve) are all returning for the new season. Paul Forman (Nico) and Arnaud Binard as Laurent G are also back.

Who’s new in season five of Emily In Paris?

Minnie Driver, Michèle Laroque and Bryan Greenberg are joining the cast in the upcoming series. Michèle plays Yvette, an old friend of Emily’s boss Sylvie while Bryan’s character is Jake, an American living in Paris. And Minnie has been cast as Princess Jane, a friend of Sylvie’s who married into a royal family.

Is the whole of season five of Emily In Paris set in Rome?

The jet-setting marketing executive may have come close to replacing her adopted hometown with 'Rome' in her famous Instagram handle. But showrunner Darren said that the marketing executive isn’t finished with France just yet. Production will move back to Paris later this summer.

With all episodes of Emily in Paris season four now available on Netflix, fans enamoured by Emily Cooper's (Lily Collins) adventures away from the French capital are desperate to know whether there will be another instalment of the Netflix original, specifically one filmed in Rome.

'There's no place like Rome,' Lily says in the clip.

The collaborative Instagram post read, 'It’s official: EMILY IN PARIS is coming back for season five!'

Will season five of Emily in Paris be called Emily in Rome?

It is too early to say what direction Emily in Paris will take in future seasons, and which city she'll be based in.

But Emily in Paris creator Darren Star has heavily hinted that Emily will not be leaving Paris permanently. He told The Hollywood Reporter, 'We’ll spend some time in Rome. But she did not change her Instagram handle to Emily in Rome. They can be in more than one city, and Emily can spend time in Rome. She can spend time in Paris, too. She’s not leaving Paris.'

He also discussed the prospect of season five being set in Rome, saying, 'Yeah, I think we will definitely see more Emily in Rome if we have a season five. Emily [is now] there. There’s an office, and I think the story is taking us there for the moment. So we will spend more time in Italy, but it doesn’t mean we’re leaving Paris.'
