After two long years, And Just Like That is finally returning for season three on 29 May. With 12 episodes to look forward to, and lots of questions remaining from the season two finale, we've been watching and rewatching the trailer to decipher what's in store.
Despite mixed reviews, the Sex and the City spin-off has built up a loyal fanbase since it started in 2021, and has become HBO Max's most successful original series to date. These fans have plenty of questions. What's happening between Carrie and Aidan? What about Miranda, has she met someone new? And is it true Karen Pittman (who played Dr Nya Wallace) isn't returning for season three?
With a month left to go until the first episode drops... let's investigate some of our most burning questions.
Are Carrie and Aidan back together? If so, what type of stepmother is she?
Season two left us on tenterhooks when Carrie sold her apartment and invested in a (very sizeable) brownstone family home in New York City so that Aidan and his sons could move in. However, when Aidan's son Wyatt, who has a history of drug and alcohol abuse, got into a tractor accident when Aidan wasn't there, he decided he needed to go back to Virginia and prioritise being a parent.
Then came the behind the scenes photos from filming of Aidan calling up to Carrie's window, suggesting that they might be giving things another go after all. In the trailer, we see the girls discussing a blank postcard she had received from Aidan, prompting an 'awww' from Charlotte and a 'blank postcard gets an aww?' from Miranda. We know Aidan (John Corbett) is in the new series, but in what capacity we will have to wait to see...
If they do get back together or at least try to make long distance work, will we see Carrie step into her role as a stepmother? Will she shower them with expensive aftershave or take them to get McDonalds in a cutesy beret? With her, anything is possible.
Does Carrie start seeing her British next door neighbour?
As a question mark lingers over the Aidan storyline, it seems Carrie has a new potential love interest in season three. In the trailer we see her English next door neighbour (of course in American TV speak, 'British' means charming and sophisticated) call her 'a vibrant' and Miranda notes, 'you and your neighbour caught a little vibe there'.
We know Carrie loves drama, so seeing her next door neighbour while in a complicated, on-off, long-distance relationship sounds like just the sort of thing she would dive into.
What's Carrie's novel going to be about?
Love life aside, we also learn from the teaser that Carrie is venturing into the world of fiction. She's writing her first novel and is told 'romantasy is hot right now'. Will she try her hand at Fairy Porn? Will her debut be slammed by critics as a 'beach read'? Or will she dazzle the contemporary publishing scene with a surprisingly insightful exploration of modern love?
What happened to Che Diaz?
Sadly, Che Diaz (Sara Ramírez) will not be returning this season. The non-binary podcaster and comedian, who first appears as Miranda's love interest, was widely mocked by viewers during their two series on the show. Sara first hinted at their exit in January, when they referred to Che as 'performative' in an Instagram post.
In March, a Variety report then confirmed that Che would not be back for a third season. Sources claimed that the character's time on the show had come to a natural end now that Che and Miranda were no longer in a relationship.
Cynthia later said that the show's creator Michael Patrick King felt that 'that character had run its course'. '[Sara] created such an amazing character - such a controversial character, but such an amazing character. They came in and shook everything up, and then the arc was completed,' she told Variety.
Is Miranda dating someone new?
With that in mind, Miranda is once again single and ready to mingle. Her dating life is likely to be a big storyline again this series because Carrie's signature voice over promised 'hot days and even hotter nights' over a clip of Miranda waving to someone in a cocktail bar.
There is no sign of Steve in the trailer, but he's bound to pop up once or twice in the 12 episodes of the season.
What happened to Nya Wallace?
In March 2024, And Just Like That fans were dealt another blow with the news that Karen Pittman - known for her work on The Morning Show - would not be returning as Miranda's friend Nya Wallace either.
A Max spokesperson told Variety, 'It has been a joy to have Karen Pittman play the smart and stunning Professor Nya Wallace on the first two seasons of And Just Like That. As we have thoroughly enjoyed working with this dynamic actress, so too have others. Due to her commitments to two other streamer series, it has become apparent that filming three shows at once isn’t possible.'
Does Lisa have an affair?
In season two, Lisa Todd Wexley, who is another parent at Charlotte's children's school and has become a key member of the group, started to really focus on her career as a documentary maker which was (surprise, surprise) putting a strain on her home life and her marriage. The storyline culminated in Lisa finding out she was pregnant at the end of the season and not knowing whether to keep the baby because of her upcoming work commitments. However, she ended up having a miscarriage, which fans called a 'disappointing' way of avoiding the topic of abortion.
In the season three trailer, it seems like there is still a strain on Lisa and Herbert's marriage. He finds a selfie of her and her co-editor on her phone and appears to get jealous... Will things continue to unravel between them just be because her career is thriving? Let's hope not.
Is Charlotte still working in the art gallery? Does Harry finally support her working?
Last season, Charlotte decided to go back to work in an art gallery (just like the good old days) and seemed to be enjoying her restored independence. Naturally, Harry struggled to hold down the fort because he has a 'high power job' as a lawyer and never did his fair share of the domestic load. Did the cracks continue to grow? Did Charlotte have to give up work again? What did her daughters think?
It's hard to tell from the trailer, but it will be interesting to see how they tie that one up.
Does Seema find love?
Another big storyline seems to be about lifelong singleton Seema finally meeting someone. The trailer shows a montage of bad dates where a very glamorous looking Seema says 'been there', 'take care', 'nope'. We know that she has always been content with her life but has been longing to meet someone to share it with, will that happen for her this season? Let's hope so.
Is Kim Cattrall going to make another cameo?
This one was just wishful thinking, but a lot of social media users have expressed their disappointment at the absence of Samantha Jones from the trailer. Kim Cattrall did only appear as a cameo at the end of the last season for about one minute and filmed her scene in a car miles away from the rest of the cast. And Kim did say that cameo was all she was ever going to do. But, alas, we can all dream.
