This morning, Dakota Johnson announced a brand new product from her sexual wellness start-up, Maude, on Instagram: a powerful, discreet vibrator called ‘Drop’. Posting the product launch on Instagram, Dakota says she keeps hers in her purse in what might be the most telling clue of all time that Chris Martin definitely has a type - you know, women who love sexual wellness and carry vibrators everywhere with them.
An ‘all-body massager that can be used to stimulate all erogenous zones’, the Drop is currently only available in the US with an ‘international waitlist’ available for those of us waiting for our own Dakota-sponsored orgasms across the pond.
Why are we telling you about a product that’s only available in the US, you might ask? Well, because with this announcement it’s clear a very exciting new trend has begun: celebrity vibrators are the new go-to business venture for Hollywood’s elite.
There's Lora DiCarlo, co-owned by Cara Delevingne and Lora DiCarlo, a sexual wellness company that made over £5million in revenue in the first year of business. Then, Gwyneth Paltrow's Goop which hosts an assortment of sexual wellness products, from vibrators to vaginal eggs, and earlier this year Lily Allen partnered with Womanizer for the ‘Liberty’ vibrator – a product launch that was so popular, it was trending on Google across the UK.
Now, with Dakota launching her very own vibrator with Maude – for which she is co-creative director – it seems celebrity vibrators have risen from the ashes of celebrity perfumes.
What’s more chic that championing women’s sexual wellness?
Long gone are the days someone gets famous, brings out their signature scent in an overpriced bottle and forges a million-dollar empire (we’re looking at you, Paris – entrepreneurial queen), now celebrities are forced to be more inventive. Often going outside of their personal brand to form companies you might not even know they’re a part of without some digging, Hollywood has turned merchandise chic.
And these days, what’s more chic that championing women’s sexual wellness? Gifting women orgasms, destigmatising female masturbation and making some major cash doing it? It’s actually quite surprising this hasn’t become a trend sooner.
So, watch this space ladies. With celebrities like these shouting about female pleasure and creating the products we need to experience it, we’re bound to have a ton more Hollywood-endorsed vibrators in the near future – and we can’t wait…
