Anything men can do, women can do better – that’s the age old saying, right? Well, it’s something one Texan woman is proving this week as she crashes multiple weddings in the US, and rather than taking advantage of free drinks or trying to bed random guests a la Wedding Crashers – she’s leaving with thousands of pounds.
According to the Comal County Sheriff’s Office, based in Texas, police are on the lookout for a female suspect involved in ‘a series of wedding venue theft offences’. Literally dubbing her ‘the wedding crasher’, the office sent out a statement on Facebook this week asking for tips about who the woman could be.
‘The suspect arrives uninvited to weddings, poses as a guest and then steals the gifts,’ the statement read, ‘The Wedding Crasher has been frequenting wedding events not only in Comal County, but surrounding counties as well, preying on unsuspecting families and friends’
Offering a $4000 reward for anyone who helps bring her ‘to justice’, the woman is apparently stealing gift cards and envelopes of cash – rather than, you know, a massive blender. Because clearly, she is an evil genius.
So much so that she even cases venues before she attends them, with one witness - Rhonda Hollon, president of the New Braunfels Wedding Chamber - spotting her and an accomplice (a wedding crashing team?!) at open houses for wedding venues on multiple occasions over the Summer.
However, her Summer of Scamming may soon come to an end as officers have managed to amass pictures of her as she brazenly uses the stolen gift cards to buy herself presents. By figuring out what gift cards have been stolen, they have compared wedding venue footage with CCTV footage from the associated stores ultimately gathered multiple pictures and videos of her mid-scam sesh.
‘That’s really been the break in these investigations, is that the venues are able to get the video to us, as well as where the gift cards have been executed, we’re able to take those two videos, put them next to each other, and go, “That’s the same person,”’ detective Scott Frakes told KENS 5 news station.
Riveting investigative work. FBI worthy.
