On last night’s I’m A Celebrity, AJ Pritchard took part in a trial and we finally got to see more of him on our screens. Having remained relatively quiet in the season so far, it was our first glimpse into his personality. But while we’re watching him flail about in dark rooms filled with critters, everyone else seems to be Googling ‘Is AJ Pritchard gay’.
In fact, if you type I’m A Celebrity in on Google Trend’s you’ll notice ‘AJ Pritchard sexuality’ and ‘Is AJ Pritchard gay’ are breakout search terms – meaning the public is obsessed with finding out how he labels himself. So much so, his girlfriend of two years, dancer Abbie Quinnen, appears to have been asked about it by The Sun in a recent interview.
‘I am 100 percent positive that AJ is not gay,’ she said. ‘But he doesn’t like to put labels on anything. He has said "love is love" because he really does believe that "love is love". And it doesn’t matter who you love, whether that be a girl or a boy.’
Her comments on his decision not to label his sexuality come after AJ spoke to Gay Times in 2019. At the time, he told the publication ‘You never know how times will change in where you are in your life. But it is always about being happy and being true to yourself.
‘Like always following your heart – obviously listen to your brain – but really just at that time in your life. It is mad that everything always has to have a label, whether it be the clothes by designers or whether you are in a relationship.’
Much like the publics obsession with Jordan North’s sexuality, the focus on AJ Pritchard’s seems to have peaked since he began I’m A Celebrity. But until either of them want to talk about it openly or label themselves in ways they see fit, it’s really no one else’s business.
Sure, you might wonder about it - but it's the public commentary that needs to end. The fact that AJ’s own girlfriend is being asked about it in interview speaks volumes. The more interest the public show in AJ’s sexuality, the more pressure he’ll face to talk about something he clearly doesn’t feel comfortable labelling. So, as we’ve said before, how about we shift focus onto something he is comfortable talking about… and hopefully with more air time we’ll know what that is eventually.
