As the weather turns colder and the nights draw in, everyone’s thoughts seem to be heading the same way — Christmas. And while there’s no denying that Christmas will be very different this year, that doesn’t necessarily have to be a bad thing. Last week, the John Lewis 2020 Christmas Shop opened at its flagship Oxford Street store; however, this year, you don’t have to be in Central London to visit, as the department store has launched a virtual shop that you can walk through without even leaving your sofa.
Yes, that means you get all the magic of Christmas shopping without any of the mayhem. On the 3D tour of the Oxford Street shop, customers are able to click through the winter wonderland using a computer, smartphone or tablet. It’s basically the same experience as shopping in store, just done in the comfort and safety of your own home.
Shoppers are able to discover the 2020 Christmas themes and take a stroll through the largest Christmas Tree forest ever with over 40 different styles ranging from 4ft to 9ft tall. As you walk through the Festive Footpath, you’ll see over 1,300 hanging baubles and 1,500 individual lights.
Dan Cooper, Partner and Head of Christmas at John Lewis & Partners, said in a press release, ‘We know that Christmas might look a little different to our customers this year, with smaller celebrations at home and video calls to loved ones. But we also know that many are looking forward to the small joys that the festive season brings: from decorated fireplaces to wreaths on doors.’
‘This year we have created a Christmas shop that will of course delight and inspire our customers but we have also focused on making it a simple journey that means they can tick off their list happily and safely.’
We’ve saved the best part for last — from the virtual tour of the Christmas shop, customers have the option to click through and buy their favourite decorations. It really is just like shopping! We’ve already had a stroll (or two) around the virtual shop and picked out our favourites — shop the gallery below, and let us know what you’ll be decorating with this year.
