The swishing midi has its place - as does the mid-00s maxi - but this spring belongs to one skirt and one skirt only. With thigh’s-the-limit hemlines spotted once more at Miu Miu (who officially owns the ultimate skirt for SS22), 16Arlington, Balmain, Chanel, Coperni, Khaite and Off-White, give it up for the mini.
Everyone who's anyone has been wearing a mini skirt - Rihanna, Sydney Sweeney, Tessa Thompson, J.Lo and Megan Fox - suggesting that we've already found this year's 'hot girl summer' uniform.
At the fashion month just gone, the mini skirt got a great showing off the catwalk as well as on, particularly outside Miu Miu, where one and all was wearing the brand's shorn off skirt - and Prada. But there were other (equally chic) examples. Journalist Eugenie Trochu wore her pleated red skirt with a leather blazer and preppy loafers outside Jil Sander. Model Olivia Valin, meanwhile, matched her leopard-spotted skirt to her pea coat.
Bare legs might still feel unthinkable (even after the recent jump in temperature), but set about introducing the mini into your spring wardrobe with top halves such as cardigans, button-down shirts, sweater vests over tees and chunky jumpers on chillier evenings. If you want to toughen up your mini just a smidge, put your ballet pumps temporarily on ice for flat knee-high boots, trainers and tennis socks or chunky loafers.
