The Infamous Zara ‘Blogger’ Skort Of 2013 Is Back – And TikTok Can’t Get Enough

The year is 2013, you've just slipped into your ride-or-die Zara asymmetric skort paired with a graphic tee, ankle boots and a leather jacket (draped over your shoulders in the perfect 'shrobe', of course), and are getting ready to take pics with your pals/mum for your newest obsession: Tumblr.

Every aspiring #blogger (and member of the Grazia fashion desk) owned this Zara piece back in 2013/2014 - to the extent that the skort is now intrinsically linked to the early days of fashion blogging, and the rise of street-style. Just like low-rise denim and butterfly tops, the Y2K revival is back in a big way, and in rather surprising news - skorts are officially back in vogue. And actually, we're kind of here for it.

But what is a skort?

The clue's in the name - a skort is a combination of skirt and shorts. They provide the range of motion and extra coverage of a skirt, but with the added bonus of protecting your modesty, and, work double time to reduce thigh-chafing.

The addition of hidden shorts greatly reduces our anxiety over a swift summer breeze coming along and putting on a show, plus, because they have shorts built in, skorts are a much safer way to nail the micro mini trend for 2022.

Skorts rose in popularity back in the 1960s as a front-runner in the feminist fashion movement, popping up again in the '90s with the rise of grunge. They then came back with a bang in the early 2010s thanks to early-adopting bloggers - some of whom have been shocked to spot the iconic Zara skort back in stores this week.

Influencer Sophie Milner took to Instagram yesterday to share the news that the iconic blogger skort is back in Zara stores, and you can bet it's caused quite the ripple throughout the OG fashion blogger community.

But it's not just us having a nostaglic trip back to 2013. Thanks to Gen-Z, skorts have taken over TikTok (videos containing skorts are now at 47 million views). First of all we saw the sportier iterations of the piece hitting the big leagues - with this Girlfriend Collective tennis skort and this Lululemon skort going viral. TikTok users officially crowned summer 2022 as 'Skort Era', causing retailers everywhere to start stocking up on mullet-style bottoms.

The new way to style a skort for 2022? Think tank tops with chunky sandals, or layered over a bikini with an oversized shirt for the perfect beach-to-bar look. Just steer clear of pixie boots.
