There are some trends I'm proud not to have taken part in. Wearing a G-string above my waistband, for one, is something I'm so glad I never succumbed to, no matter how Y2K or Brat it might have been. Fashion slippers are another good example – there's no way I'm risking being seen outside the house wearing my pink fluffy Marks & Spencer slippers. However, one trend I am happy to partake in, and might change your mind that I'm, in fact, not a complete and utter prude, is the nightwear-as-daywear trend. Essentially, yes, I'm happy to wear my satin nightie out of the house (exceptions apply, of course).
The nightwear-as-daywear trend, as ever, had its beginnings on the catwalk. With designers like Chloé, Dries Van Noten and Miu Miu signing off on the trend, it should probably come as no surprise that the high street isn't too far behind. Out of all of the styles I've spotted, the Nobody's Child take on a slip dress is, by far, my favourite. The Satin Lace Trim Ally Mini Dress features delicate lace trimmings, a square neckline and adjustable spaghetti straps – all the things you'd expect from a classic nightie, but it's far less OAP.

The Nobody's Child Ally Mini Dress is great for evenings where you want to dress up a little, without trying too hard. It's finished with a lace cream trim and thin adjustable straps. Style with anything from a chunky pair of loafers to kitten heels to ballet flats.
The key to styling a lace dress (so that your outfit turns out less grandma and more chic) is to wear it with something a bit tailored or masculine. The wrong shoe theory, which refers to choosing an unexpected shoe to finish off an outfit, could come in useful here as It-girls are styling their satin dresses with chunky loafers and knee-high white socks, or if you're Alexa Chung, with bejewelled platform Crocs. For the daytime, style the Nobody's Child Ally Mini Dress with a boxy leather jacket and printed ballet flats, or, for the evening, dial it up with chunky gold bangles and kitten heels.

Whether you're off to a festival (this was a popular frock at Glastonbury this year), rooftop drinks, or just feeling like making a little bit more effort on your Sunday morning coffee run, the Nobody's Child Ally Mini Dress certainly has range. It's easy to dress up, but can also be teamed with biker boots and a denim jacket for a casual flair. It might look like lingerie at first glance, but the fashion pack knows better – just don't be surprised if you end up back in bed wearing it too.
