Gingham is not one to hibernate - and this Nobody's Child jacket proves it.

There really is no escaping gingham, not even as the weather changes. What began as a somewhat comforting nostalgic memoir to summer terms at school, picnic blankets and Judy Garland's pinafore in The Wizard Of Oz, has now turned into a trend with staying power. This summer, gingham was spotted on, well, everything. From Olivia Rodrigo's archival Ralph Lauren check mini dress, to Uniqlo's sell-out trousers and those boxer shorts, but, rather than disappearing with the last Aperol Spritz of August, gingham looks to be a continuing trend as we head further into autumn/winter 2025.

The evidence is everywhere. Take Louis Vuitton's autumn/winter 2025 show, where supersized red and black checks appeared on asymmetric mini dresses, styled with black knee-high socks - a somewhat tongue-in-cheek revival of said schoolyard charm. While designers chose to strip gingham of its naivety, the high street offers noticeably lighter and brighter interpretations, perfect for the upcoming shift in seasons as we enter a cooler September.

Nobody's Child, Blue Gingham Swing JacketNobody's Child

The newest jacket to join the Nobody's Child viral hall of fame is its Gingham Swing Jacket. With long sleeves, a preppy collar and button-up front, style the jacket over the top of a knit, or a t-shirt and jeans.

It is, however, Nobody's Child I always find myself looking to for standout gingham pieces, and it's the Blue Gingham Swing Jacket that's recently caught my eye, thanks to a flurry of fashion people wearing it at Copenhagen Fashion Week. A style the brand describes as 'the perfect throw-on-and-go layer', its Gingham Swing Jacket features a preppy collar, long sleeves, side pockets and a length that hits just below the hip.

If you're on the hunt for ways to style the Nobody's Child gingham jacket, Copenhagen Fashion Week offers inspiration aplenty. Wear yours with clashing prints, like polka dots (which also happen to be a 2025 wardrobe mainstay), or subtle stripes. A simple pair of black capri pants (or pedal pushers) and a white baby tee will also make for an effortlessly cool look. Alternatively, the gingham jacket will work equally as well with a pair of jeans and a neutral knit - whether you're in full maximalist mode or prefer a more pared-back way of dressing, the jacket transitions easily, proving that it's just as relevant in autumn as it was in the summer.

Almost like clockwork, each year, Nobody's Child releases another excellent jacket that's made of potential viral material. Last year, it was the Double-Breasted Trench Coat that London's It-girls took a liking to, as it was spotted on both Poppy Delevingne and Anais Gallagher. This year, if Copenhagen Fashion Week is anything to go by (which anyone in the fashion industry will tell you, it absolutely is), then the jacket of the moment will be the Gingham Swing Jacket. It's a design that's not only destined to sell out (and I imagine in record time, too), but it's also one that proves gingham is refusing to hibernate this autumn/winter.

Price: $99.99 (was £149)

Aligne's gingham jacket offering comes in the form of its Nathan style. Designed with large checks and a goes-with-everything navy colourway, the jacket is a good one for the cooler months as it's thicker than a classic trench.

Boden, Knightsbridge Gingham JacketBoden

Boden's take on a collared gingham jacket is equal parts preppy and modern. Featuring retro accents like a back box pleat and sharp collar, style with its matching gingham trousers, or with a mini skirt and knee-high biker boots.

Damson Madder, Mercedes Bow Reversible TrenchDamson Madder

Damson Madder's gingham reversible trench is a style that's previously gone viral - and it's easy to see why. With its multi-pleat detailing, back bow and reversible design, style the gingham way with jeans and ballet flats, or the cream way with a midi skirt and graphic t-shirt.

Free People, Chloe Gingham Cotton JacketFree People

Free People's gingham jacket is closer to a quilted jacket than a trench, but that makes it ideal for the cooler weather. With a stand collar and dropped shoulders, pair the laid-back jacket with a pair of baggy trousers and a cap.
