Boot season has well and truly arrived, but that doesn't mean you can't still be footloose and fancy free in the wardrobe department. The latest outfit formula that everyone seems to be wearing involves a sensible bottom half (knee-high boots) and a less sensible top half (a minidress) to make the kind of outfit magic that will keep your autumn mojo coming until the weather really turns Arctic.
This weekend, Instagram's Eva Chen posted a photo of a micro shirt dress styled with kitten-heeled boots. Meow!
At Paris Fashion Week, the street-stylers wore chunky-soled knee-highs with crystal-embellished minis (Thássia Naves) and cropped sweater dresses (Christine Centenera). The flat sole is key to both of these looks (a heel would have looked too obvious, too 'party').
Of course, a heeled boot is still a possibility, you just have to wear something slightly more oversized/covered up on the top half like Chen. A high-necked mini - Zara's leopard-spotted style gets our vote - with an oversized blazer could definitely work. So would this turtleneck mini knit dress from & Other Stories (which actually comes styled with the kind of knee-high boots you're looking for; slightly roomy on the leg with a heel that's no higher than a few inches).
It wasn't cold enough in the city of lights to warrant the third component to this outfit, but a floor-skimming winter coat, when the temperature really dips, would round things out nicely without ruining any of the proportions.
And with party season around the corner, this is also the ideal outfit formula to go from team meetings to team empresso martinis. Just add some shoulder-grazing earrings and you're good to go.
