There's plenty to celebrate in the change of seasons: the mercury is rising, our vitamin D levels are on the up and Pimm’s-tinged weekends are back on the agenda. But there’s a downside too: the swapping of SAD for WFD (wardrobe fatigue disorder).

Just when you’ve nailed dressing for the cold, you have to recalibrate your senses for less bulky attire, often resulting in a mind blank. All of a sudden heavy bootsmake way for sandals (and force us to book the long overdue summer pedi), and knitwear is eschewed in favour for our rotation of our tried and trusted spring dresses. But good news for our wallets: often all it takes is a savvy styling hack to rediscover inspiration, and this season’s fresh take on layering might just be a first hint as to what your summer wardrobe will look like.

It comes courtesy of It label The Row and involves long trousers and a lightweight jumper(preferably cashmere), layered over a lacy layer – ideally a lace-trimmed silk slip. Already adopted by the style set and the chicest corners of TikTok, this is not just an easy way to reinterpret layers for the warmer
months (note: replace the jumper with an oversized tee or crisp shirt), it’s also a far cry from the sort of tired quiet luxury aesthetic the Olsen twins’ label is synonymous with. Instead, it semaphores vintage sensibilities (as if you’ve just thrown on this thing you found in the bargain bin of your local charity shop) and a knack for authentic style. It feels different and, crucially, fresh. What’s more, you probably have all the ingredients in your closet and, if you don’t, Vinted will likely provide budget-friendly options. Elsewhere, COS and Me+Em have interesting lacy options. Slip one on.
