Sandals? In March? Seriously? Yes, seriously because, while sturdy winter boots have served us faithfully for several months now, it's time to step (quite literally) into spring.
Sandals might seem like a rather extreme move - bypassing wooden clogs, loafers and ballet pumps in the pursuit of slightly more breeze around the ankles - but not the kind we're thinking of. Flip-flops are height-of-summer footwear, but flat chunky sandals, the sort you can style with thick socks if you're not quite ready to go 'naked', are perfect for now.
Hailey Bieber swears by the padded leather slides from Gia Borghini, styling hers with workout leggings and a zippered dad jumper. (They'd also look great with a crisp button-down shirt, baggy jeans and a blazer.)
At the shows in September, the models spotted outside opted for thick black flatforms that meant business. Ganni's version has the kind of thick ruched straps that you're looking for, while Hereu, which makes the most brilliant fisherman's sandals, has a pair with a woven upper and supportive ankle strap. Grenson's two-strap sandals, meanwhile, are available in a sleek monochrome colour palette, plus the raised sole means that you don't have to worry too much about getting them mucky. What's not to love?
