Sarah Jessica Parker has started many trends in her time as Carrie Bradshaw, but one of her most enduring has got to be the clingy dress. In last night's episode, for her first night back on the dating scene, Carrie wore a classic of the genre: a one-shouldered, figure-caressing design from Norma Kamali. And just like that, she's back.
This look feels very 'Carrie', with all the signatures we've come to know and love (high heels, clutch bag and slick ballerina bun) present and correct. And the best news? You can buy the exact dress, albeit not in ice blue but red, beige or mauve, from £163. January might not be the most 'bare shoulder' month, but come summer wedding season, you'll be glad you took a leaf out of her style book. Trust us.
Carrie owned every kind of party dress imaginable. Who remembers the newspaper dress (so good that it got a second showing in SATC 2)? And what about the naked dress, the teeny-weeny slip that she wore on her first official date with Mr. Big? The tiered-and-spangled dress (another first date, this time with Aleksandr Petrovsky); the powder blue flapper-style dress; the plunging sketch-knit dress she wore to date the New Yankee? All have a place in the party dress hall of fame. And while nothing seems to have changed when it comes to her aforementioned signatures, the styling is ever-so-slightly different.
The high heels are still very much in situ, but she's also wearing a blazer, a practical move that perhaps might not have occurred to SATC Carrie. We love the balance of the body-hugging dress with the sharp satin tailoring, especially with the addition of the sleek hairstyle and minimal diamond studs.
