We might have more or less resumed 'normal' life, but for many us, that still involves several days spent working from home. What this means for our wardrobes is that, while we we have the best intentions to ease out of leggings and into something without a stretchy waistband, it's hard to resist the siren call of the tracksuit when video calling in the home office. But said tracksuit doesn't have to be the clothing version of a cheat day (horrible expression).
Rosie Huntington-Whiteley has long been been an advocate of the tracksuit, posting sunny pictures of herself wearing a hoodie and slim-fit track pants the colour of clotted cream with chunky-soled suede sandals and gold hoop earrings. See where we're going with this? When you are venturing out of the house, swap the sneakers for some sandals and your sweatpants will immediately look a little sharper for the school run.
Huntington-Whiteley's is the ultimate version for spring, and is from tracksuit brand of the moment, Bazilika. Everyone has been wearing its sumptuously-coloured sets, probably because they are the definition of luxe loungewear, a booming clothing category thanks to the ‘stay at home’ mantra that we got so used to in 2020. Rihanna, Gigi Hadid and Jodie Turner-Smith, three of the most stylish women in the world, still haven't retired their tracksuits, but have been making stylish additions (e.g. a shearling-lined bucket hat and an acid-bright tote bag) to tip the scales towards luxe as opposed to laid-back.
Luxe doesn't have to come with an outrageous price tag. Simply seek out relaxed fit or streamlined styles in neutral shades that don’t come with too many bells and whistles. (If you are a maximalist, however, remember: tie-dye and jewel-toned are both still going the distance.) Ahluwalia's wide-leg track pants and matching track jackets are the fashion editor's ultimate tracksuit (and are definitely too good to not wear out of the house).
Dress yours up for a video meeting (or just for the joy of it) with pearl earrings and velvet house slippers. Huntington-Whiteley would approve.
