There's been talk about baseball caps making a comeback, but a crop of celebrities seem to think otherwise. Rihanna is firmly on the side of bucket hats, the official headgear of gap year students that, over the past few years at least, has undergone something of a renaissance, repositioning itself as the must-have accessory of summer 2021.
She wore hers - a sweet mint green style from Prada - out and about in New York. And paired with a sleeveless tee, stiletto pumps and a three-string pearl necklace, the overall effect was super polished instead of surfer dude. (A polka dot version of the same hat is available for £420).

The bucket hat is quite the shape-shifter, catering to a-hundred-and-one needs among its celebrity fan club. Lizzo wore her denim hat to shade her eyes from the sun, while Gigi Hadid is known to wear hers, a pink number from Prada, to go incognito with sunglasses and a face mask in Washington Square Park.

Arket's linen bucket hat is great for purists whose comfort zone is neutrals and natural fabrics; Lazy Oaf's daisy-printed style, meanwhile, is perfect for making like it's summer even when there's a thunderstorm.

If you want to avoid the obvious surfer dude comparisons, perhaps avoid wearing with tie-dye. Although Paco Rabanne's Lose Yourself bucket, complete with swirls of the stuff, looks pretty fabulous from where we're standing.
