We're sipping on hot chocolate, the scent of woody pine is in the air and Mariah Carey is crooning on the radio. The festive season is officially in full swing and it's brought along a social calendar full of office Christmas parties and glitzy dinners with friends and family. All of this to say; it's time your wardrobe took a turn for the sparkly, and with all our attention on party outfits, the most fashion-forward way to shine bright this season is in a sequin skirt.

As ubiquitous for Christmas time as florals are for spring, sequins have always been a festive party favourite. But for 2024, the style set is wearing sequinned skirts, in particular, everywhere — from elegant soirees and nights out, to weekend brunches and even the office. On the runway, designers have, too, received the sequinned skirts memo. From Dries Van Noten's sparkly skirts paired with bomber jackets to 16Arlington's skirts adorned with striking paillettes and Staud's sultry sheer take on the trend, designers are injecting a serious dose of glamour into AW dressing this year. Whether you choose a classic silver or gold metallic skirt, an autumnal black or navy hue or go all out with a pop of red or green, there are plenty of sequinned skirts for every taste and occasion.

When it comes to making a statement in a shiny sequin skirt this winter, styling it with a sleek satin blouse, opulent fur coat and kitten heels is the obvious choice for chic evening drinks. Or perhaps, with a tailored blazer and knee-high boots for the office Christmas party. We're also fans of slipping into a sequin skirt for more understated occasions with some genius styling tricks. Dress it down with an oversized knit and chunky trainers for work or add a rough edge with biker boots and a leather jacket for weekend sojourns to the countryside.

Although designer iterations are likely to come with a hefty price tag, thankfully for us, the high street offers up a conveyor belt of sequinned skirts at a fraction of the price that will suitably amp up your party wardrobe for years to come. Take, for example, the Marks & Spencer Sequin Tassel Slip Skirt, £89 which is all over my Instagram feed at the moment. The silver fringed skirt is elegant, playful and much more versatile than you might imagine.

Swishy and glamorous with a Western-inspired fringe detailing, M&S delivers a sparkling number that you're sure to reach for every year.

Meanwhile, Massimo Dutti's skirt comes with a semi-sheer panel for a subtle shimmer ideal for a more understated statement. Elsewhere, H&M's mohair-blend skirt with sequins will look excellent with a matching cream jumper and keep you cosy while you shimmer. From swishy metallic numbers to bright pops of colour, keep scrolling for our pick of the best sequin skirts to shop now and wear forever.

With its sultry mesh and sequin construction, this H&M skirt is so similar to Staud's sheer design that it's hard to believe it's under £75.

Another influencer-favourite, this striking red midi is also the shining star of my personal party outfit rotation this season. Elegant, playful and perfect for adding a pop of colour to your neutral winter outfits, it's so popular that it sells out after every restock but is, thankfully, in stock right now.

We love a statement mini skirt for party season and Mango's silver sequinned iteration is about as festive as it gets.

One for the wallflowers, Massimo Dutti's sequins subtly shine from underneath a sheer overlay, making it ideal for more understated looks. Paired with a blazer and loafers, this might just become your favourite piece to wear to the office.

For a sequinned skirt with a feminine touch, consider Zara's lace-trimmed midi. Style with a cashmere cardigan and knee-highs for date night.

If you're worried about the cold, H&M's beige maxi skirt is knitted with a mohair and wool-blend to keep you cosy while the sequin stripes add the perfect sparkle.

A fashion editor favourite, Staud's Casey skirt comes with a detachable matching slip which can be removed for a trendy sheer moment or layered under the skirt for a demure look.

Beloved by Meghan Markle, Sézane crafts timeless pieces with a Parisian flair, like this dull gold midi that'll elevate your favourite white T-shirt and look equally as nice with a fur coat and lashings of gold jewellery.

Take styling cues from street style icons and style this olive skirt with a chunky grey jumper retro trainers.

If you're looking for a dopamine boosting design, look no further than London-based label Clio Peppiat's Blossom skirt covered in sunshine yellow sequins and embellished with butterfly motifs. Whether you wear it with the matching bustier to a summer party (or a Sabrina Carpenter concert) or style with an oversized T-shirt, it's a conversation starter if we ever saw one.
