The 2021 awards season was different, to say the least. A year on from the start of lockdown and we were still having to enjoy most of the awards ceremonies online. But that doesn't mean the fashion wasn't great – just look at the SAG Awards, where the A-list really pulled out all the stops, despite being at home.
Luckily, we're looking ahead to brighter times, with IRL events back in business and a general easing of restrictions across the board. This year, the BAFTAs falls on March 13, which just so happens to be this Sunday.
In terms of the nominees, for Best Film the contenders are Belfast, Don't Look Up, The Power of the Dog, Dune and Licorice Pizza, while Lady Gaga, Tessa Thompson, Alana Haim and Joanna Scanlan are among the nominees for Best Actress. Those up for Best Actor include Will Smith, Leonardo DiCaprio, Benedict Cumberbatch and Mahershala Ali.
While the Oscars may seem like the crème de la crème on the film industry’s calendar, particularly in terms of the fashion, we'd like to make a case for the BAFTAs red carpet.

While we wait to see what this year's awards offers us in terms of spectacular gowns and glorious outfits, we can remember some of the best BAFTAs dresses of all time right now, thanks to the likes of Sienna Miller (a repeat winner, as you can see above), Julianne Moore, Dakota Johnson, Léa Seydoux, Jennifer Lawrence and more.

We have perused through the BAFTA archive to unearth some pretty great fashion throwbacks. From Sienna Miller’s backless silver green ‘mermaid dress’ in 2007 to Kate Hudson's glowing-gold look, to Michelle Williams even wearing H&M in 2012, these are our favourite BAFTA gowns of all time. Just for your enjoyment.
