Is there an occasion on earth where we won’t be greeted with the infamous Zara dress? We’ve seen it in the office, on the tube and now … down the aisle. That’s right, earlier this year a woman wore THE Zara dress to get married and now, the internet has entered hysteria over it.

Gulnaz Khusneeva, the CEO of a children’s clothing company from Kazan, Russia, was gifted the dress by her sister after Gulnaz insisted she would wear something she old on her big day - because the wedding was ‘just a formality’.

According to The Huffington Post, Gulnaz and her now-husband Azat, 33, had decided to get married quickly after finding out she was pregnant in December 2018.

‘I’m a hard-working person and I didn’t care about our wedding,’ she said, ‘I thought, “it’s just a formality” – we had lived together four years and it was just for our baby. I wasn’t going to buy a special dress.’

Alas, her sister refused to let her wear something she already owned. ‘She forbade me to go to the registry office in an old dress and bought me a new dress the day before our wedding,’ Gulnaz said, dubbing the polka-dot number her ‘perfect wedding dress’.

Since she was in her second-trimester of pregnancy on the big day, the qualities of the Zara dress – being loose fitting and cool for the warm Spring weather – made it the perfect maternity wedding dress. However, Gulnaz was completely unaware of the dress’ popularity, because not only was it months before we started to see the dress on every other person but also because it’s just not as popular in Kazan.

‘I found out about it three months after the wedding,’ she said. How? Thanks to @Hot4TheSpot, a fan Instagram account dedicated to the dress. Yes, really. Featured on the account herself this week, the response was monumental with thousands of likes and comments in support.

In fact, Gulnaz was so overwhelmed by the response she has made the dress a celebration item in her wardrobe, promising to wear it when she’s discharged from hospital after having her baby.

‘Historically important days in our family are associated with a magical dress from Zara’, she explained, ‘What an amazing story for our children and grandchildren! I will tell it many times.’

So it seems the Zara dress has moved beyond a staple Summer item into occasion wear. Alas, we will never escape it’s power to appeal to the masses. Zara, you’ve done it again.
