There's no denying that this is Nicola Coughlan's year. In the past six months, the actor has been promoting Big Mood – the brilliant series available to stream on Channel 4 in which she stars alongside Lydia West – as well as the latest instalment of Bridgerton, which has seen Coughlan serve look after look on red carpets all over the world. Now, it's just been announced that she's the latest celebrity face to front a SKIMS campaign, joining the likes of Lana Del Rey, Sabrina Carpenter and, erm, Usher.
'Everyone's favourite romantic lead meets our most-loved dresses,' read the caption posted to SKIMS's Stories alongside ethereal images of Coughlan modelling various styles of the brand's Soft Lounge dresses. It continued: 'Adored for their super soft, drapey fabric for hourglass curves,' and, lest you were in any doubt about how good these dresses are, Coughlan looks so phenomenal in them, it's enough to make you add to basket on the spot.
Said Coughlan of her new ambassadorial role: 'I’m so honoured to be in SKIMS latest campaign! I’ve been a fan of SKIMS since the beginning. It’s been my on set lounging outfit since day one. I love that it’s a brand that makes everyone look and feel amazing. The Soft Lounge styles are incredibly flattering, comfortable, and so soft, and so beautiful. Whether I’m wearing them at home or on set I always feel incredible.'
From the grey long sleeved dress to the spaghetti strap style in lime, these body-hugging dresses give an hourglass silhouette while providing comfort, too – no mean feat, as it happens. They make for particularly good airport outfits if you're going on holiday soon (just wear with trainers or Birkenstocks) or provide a great base layer for everyday outfits. They can even be dressed up with heels and statement earrings for an after-dark-appropriate look.
Whether or not you're a fan of Kim Kardashian, one thing that SKIMS has always done is celebrate bodies of all shapes and its approach to sizing is inclusive, which is sadly still not the norm when it comes to shapewear and lingerie brands. Speaking of Coughlan's appointment, Kardashian said: 'Everyone knows I’ve been a huge fan of Nicola and Bridgerton since the beginning, so for her to star in our Soft Lounge campaign is a full circle moment. Nicola is such an inspiration on screen and beyond, and she really brought the campaign to life with her undeniable beauty and energy.'
It's a joy to see Coughlan in this campaign – shot by fashion photographer Elizaveta Porodina – particularly after some of the vile responses to Bridgerton Season 3, which saw her body being criticised in a way that is, frankly, exhausting and frustrating. While her response to such nonsense was nothing short of perfect, she's really sealed the deal with this SKIMS campaign. Because if it doesn't make you want to buy this dress, I don't know what will.
