Yesterday, Alexa Chung announced that she's been winding down operations at her namesake brand. Thanking her team for their passion and creativity, Chung posted on Instagram: 'The experience of setting up and being at the helm of my own company has been rewarding and frequently joyful, but the last couple of years have been challenging for small independent businesses and ours is no exception.'
And whether or not you ever shopped at ALEXACHUNG, your wardrobe most likely has been influenced by Chung's. For millennials - who grew up watching her on Popworld (and copying her 'gringe') - she was the ultimate poster girl, with a look that was an alchemic blend of looking cool but never trying too hard. She's also consistent. Whether you're looking at pictures of her yesterday or 10 years ago, the same staples (like ballet pumps, denim shorts, mini dresses and navy jumpers) crop up again and again.
Don't forget, even before she launched ALEXACHUNG, back in 2017, Chung had brands queuing up to work with her. AG, M&S - remember the famous pie crust-collar blouse that was first made fashionable by Princess Diana? - and Barbour, with whom she has a current collab of waxed jackets and outerwear inspired by the brand's archive, have all relied on her style (preppy and uniquely 'Alexa') and its signatures over the years. Without further ado, here are the 12 style lessons that you've learnt (whether you realised it or not) from Alexa Chung.

The Mulberry Bag
Mulberry would eventually design a bag in homage to Alexa Chung, but back in 2009, she was happy to carry its Bayswater.
The Breton Top
Festival fashion belongs to Alexa Chung. Her go-to for Glastonbury? A Breton-style stripe with denim cut-offs and Hunters.
The Basket Bag
Chung is one of the basket bags most famous carriers, along with Jane Birkin. Back in 2010, she chose a hamper-style box to sit front row at Chanel.
The Denim Shorts
Whether wading through mud at Glasto, or spinning the decks in New York, Chung's most reliable companion is a pair of denim cut-offs.
The Mini Dress
If you look closely at her red (or pink) carpet appearances, Chung has quite a set formula of a micro dress (avec a serious stretch of leg) and either pixie boots or Mary-Janes.
The Pixie Boot
Speaking of the pixie boot, here she is wearing a pointed pair to sit front row at Marc Jacobs (circa 2014).
The Shoulder Tie
If in doubt, always play it safe weather-wise with a navy jumper looped around your shoulders (Chung styled hers with gladiator sandals in June 2014).
The Ballet Pump
Unlike many of us, who ditched ballet flats somewhere around 2004, Chung has always stayed true to the pump. On a stroll in 2014, she proved that they don't look prissy if styled with a cool-girl dress and red lipstick.
The Mini Skirt
This outfit has many of her hallmarks - the ballet flats, the little knit, the box bag - which are all tied together with that leopard mini. Sometimes, more is more.
The Denim Dress
She's rocked many denim dresses over the years, but this high-necked version - part of her collection with AG - is the most 'Alexa'.
The Slogan Sweater
Chung loves a statement sweater - she has styles from Bella Freud, Hades and Shrimps - and recommends pairing it with another signature: a well-worn Barbour.
The Denim Dungarees
Like ballet pumps, denim shorts and basket bags, dungarees will forever be associated with Alexa. In 2015, she styled her navy blue pair with a blue button-down and a teddy coat.
