Zendaya And Chloë Grace Moretz Are Already Fans Of This Year’s Must Have Accessory

Menswear's gone mainstream: or specifically, the old-man tie.

Louis Vuitton's tie revival campaign continues! Attending last night's cruise show, Chloë Grace Moretz mixed up the prints, wearing a floral shirt, a check tie and cream wide-leg trousers. The ultimate spring outfit, if you will. Actor Renate Reinsve opted for something a little different; a blush pink power tie and shirt combo worn under a woven mini dress, proving the versatile power of the accessory usually synonymous with businessmen.

But, forget TM Lewin or the corporate corridors of power. This season’s most desirable neckwear runs the gender-free gamut from Gucci (skinny leather) to Louis Vuitton (floral silk). On the Sportmax autumn/winter runway, models were suited and booted with sharp corporate girl looks – a double-breasted, hourglass tuxedo suit and leather tie was snapped up by Zendaya for her after-party appearance at the Oscars earlier this year.

Alana Haim was among the first celebrities to road-test Louis Vuitton’s AW22 collection, first seen in spring/summer 23' Paris Fashion Week. Their top pick? The crotch- grazing striped tie, worn with high-waist trousers and bomber jackets respectively.

The big cravat comeback might not be good news for those who left the accessory behind at the school gates, but consider it a sharp – and easy – update for your spring style outlook. At the Dior show, street stylers went peak Cher Horowitz, styling skinny black ties with untucked shirts and miniskirts (aka what would have got you thrown into detention back in the day). Highsnobiety's Tora Northman, tells us of her love for ties: 'The first time I wore I tie I must’ve been like, eight years old? I was obsessed with Avril Lavigne, so I wore the skinny ties in black and white gingham print with a Cheap Monday polo shirt for a while, but it really wasn’t until recently, about two years ago where I rekindled my love for a good tie. I’ve always loved a suit, so a tie felt like the natural way to elevate that, and it’s basically just gone from there.'

Gamine gals, such as Patti Smith and Charlotte Gainsbourg, own the New Wave skinny-tie-meets-skinny suit look. Look to Ralph Lauren whose upcoming collection showcases wide-set black ties peeped out under a classic three-piece suits. It goes without saying the slacks and neck-ties of Annie Hall – a film for which Ralph Lauren, coincidentally, provided most of the clothes – should remain on your mood board at all times. Plus, you don’t need to buy new – the best ties can be snaffled at a local charity shop (think vintage Liberty paisley or natty 1980s prints). Go on, go Hall the way.
