Kate Middleton and Prince William are currently undergoing their first public engagement since the release of Prince Harry’s memoir, Spare. Visiting Liverpool and Wirral, the couple sported near-matching outfits as they arrived at Liverpool’s new Royal Liverpool University Hospital.
The visit comes after weeks of scandalous royal news for the future King. Prince Harry’s memoir Spare, is now the fastest selling non-fiction book in history. The couple have not yet responded to the many allegations detailed in Prince Harry’s book, including the claim that William physically attacked Harry at home after calling Meghan Markle ‘rude’ and ‘abrasive’. While one reporter did ask William ‘Are you hurt by the comments in Harry’s book, Sir?’ upon he and Kate arriving at the hospital, the couple did not acknowledge the question.
Kate did wave to onlookers though, who cheered as the couple arrived. One reporter said that the entire atrium of the new hospital is packed with staff and patients waiting to get a glimpse of the couple.
The Prince and Princess of Wales will talk to critical care staff, including nurses, about their new facilities. According to the Liverpool Echo, William told porter and catering staff ‘The hospital can’t function without all the care you provide,’ adding that they do an ‘amazing’ job.
It’s unlikely that Kate nor William will talk to reporters about Harry’s memoir, as they appear to be embodying the royal motto Harry himself quoted of ‘Keep calm and carry on’, engaging in business as usual despite the fallout.
Their similarly themed outfits though – both wearing navy and green - do appear to be sending a message of togetherness at a time when their relationship is being questioned by the public. If you’ll remember, Harry raised alarm bells in the Meghan & Harry Netflix documentary after saying that the men in his family tend to marry for business, not love.
'I think for so many people in the family, especially the men, there could be a temptation to marry someone who would fit the mould as opposed to someone you are destined to be with,' he says. 'The difference between making a decision with your head or your heart. And my mum certainly made most of her decisions, if not all of them, from her heart. And I am my mother's son.'
He did not name William and Kate, of course, but that hasn’t stopped the public from making their own minds up about it. Today however, they appear stronger than ever – smiles an all.
