Celine Dion, musical icon and fashion legend, is (w)rapped up in a whole lot of nonsense right now. Not only has she had to beg Drake not to get her face tattooed on his body but she’s also become the subject of one (particularly hilarious) meme that has come out of rapper 6ix9ine’s most recent court testimony against Brooklyn gang members. Yes, both of those things have really happened in the world today.
First came the Drake request, where she politely but adamantly warned the fellow Canadian not to get a tattoo of her in any capacity. It comes after Drake spoke of getting her face tattooed on his rib cage way back in 2017 – something he told her personally at the Billboard Music Awards that year. Naturally, she was asked about the request during an iHeartRadio interview.
‘Please, Drake, I love you very much,’ she said speaking directly to the rapper, ‘Can I tell you something: Don't do that. You can write me love letters, you can send me autographs for my kids, you can come and visit. I can have you home for lunch or dinner… we can go for a drink. We can sing together. Whatever you want to do. I can talk to your mother. Whatever you want, but please.’
Why is she so averse to the idea? Well, it’s nothing personal towards Drake. In fact, it’s pretty personal to her own insecurities. Apparently, she thinks that her face is too long and thin to be tattooed on his body as it could look worse as Drake ages.
‘This is not the money maker over here first of all,’ she said in reference to her face. ‘As you go older—you too when the time comes—my face will go longer and it will go no prettier. So please don't tattoo it. ‘
And if you thought that was weird enough rapper-related Celine news of the day, you’ll be happily mistaken. Because, according to various memes she has also been one of the many people named by Tekashi 6ix9ine in his court testimony about Brooklyn gangs.*
*Just according to memes. We have no reason to believe that Celine Dion is actually in a gang, nor that she has at any time previously been in one.
‘BREAKING: Tekashi 6ix9ine testifies in court Celine Dion is a main leader of the Yakuza,’ FuntCaseUK tweeted yesterday, to the tune of over five thousand likes.
The joke tweet comes as Tekashi continues to reveal the supposed gang status of various people in the music industry. The most notorious allegation of which is that Cardi B is a member of the Bloods, something she has seemingly responded to on Instagram with another infamous meme: Keke Palmer saying ‘I don’t know who this man is’ (the original shot is from a Vanity Fair video where Keke admits she doesn’t recognise former US President Dick Cheney).
Tekashi is in court testifying against two Brooklyn gang members Anthony Ellison and Aljermiah Mack in an attempt to avoid a life sentence for racketeering, drug and weapons charges. While the nature of his trial is very serious, the string of public figures he has named in his testimonies has led to a lot of online commentary. Naturally, that means a lot of memes. And honestly, we’re not mad about it – they’re hilarious.
