It's not an understatement to say that the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser, £29, has amassed something of a cult following. Considered the go-to cleanser by industry experts and celebrities alike (Holly Willoughby and Lily James are both said to be fans) it boasts hundreds of five star reviews online. If deep cleansing and instant hydration is your MO? Well, you might want to scroll on for our full review.

What does the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser do?

Formulated to ‘effectively remove daily impurities and boost skin hydration after just one use,' this cleanser contains a myriad of skin beautifying ingredients. There's nourishing cocoa butter, antioxidant-rich rosemary, and soothing chamomile which work together to 'remove pollutants and makeup' And then there's the "polish" aspect. Each pack contains a gently exfoliating pure cotton cloth designed to lift away dulling dead skin and reveal radiant results. The fact it's won a whopping 150 awards and counting? Chances are it could be worth the hype...

How to use the Liz Earle Cleanse & Polish Hot Cloth Cleanser

You can use the cleanser as the first step in both your morning and night-time skincare routine, before following with your toner and moisturiser - and, of course, an SPF during the day.

Step 1: Dispense a small amount of cleanser into your palm - the brand suggest a 'grape sized' amount is sufficient.

Step 2: Massage the cleanser onto dry skin. Begin by spreading the formula over your face and neck, finishing over your eye area. Pay extra attention to areas prone to congestion - like the sides of the nose and across the chin.

Step 3: Dampen the pure cotton cloth in hand-hot water and wring out before gently polishing off the cream - this works to exfoliate. Finish by splashing your face with cool water.

Customer review: 'This is a very effective, silky smooth and luxurious product. Just dampen your fingers to massage the small amount of cleanser on your face/neck to remove make-up and dirt. The muslin cloth is excellent, it removes the product and make-up etc, acting as an exfoliate and leaves the skin positively glowing!'

How we tested it

Rachael Martin, beauty editor, says: Despite being a cleansing balm girl, I bit the bullet and swapped out my trusty favourite for the Liz Earle Cleanse and Polish - all in the name of beauty journalism. To explain my apprehension, I'm someone with very reactive skin. I break out easily with the introduction of new products, so I often proceed with caution. Luckily, I needn't have worried. I've been using the Cleanse and Polish consistently for around six weeks now and I'm proud to say I've remained true to it - I even decanted it into a smaller bottle when travelling.

Rachael's verdict:

'I'm SO impressed. This cleanser is a total joy to use. Firstly, it lathers beautifully. The texture is luxurious and silky, melting away make-up with ease - even my stubborn waterproof mascara. The cotton cloth is also lovely - it's soft and cocooning and I actively look forward to gently wiping away the leftover product. Afterwards, my skin feels soft and nourished with none of the usual tightness associated with cleansing. I do think my complexion has become considerably brighter and more radiant over the past few weeks - I'll definitely be keeping it on as part of my daily routine.'
