One thing’s for sure, in the supermarket stakes Aldi reigns supreme in terms of bagging a bargain. While we thought their award-winning champers and cheese was enough to impress, along came their innovative skincare. Named Lacura, Aldi's beauty collection boasts affordable yet effective products that often look very, very similar to beauty's high-end major players. Back in 2015, when Aldi first debuted their Caviar range - the beauty industry went into a frenzy and couldn't believe a budget supermarket was launching a caviar-infused cream for £6.99 - that can retail at £200. To see if the results stand up to their luxury counterparts, Grazia Contributor, Jenny Brownlees put them to the test.

Aldi Lacura Caviar Skincare
Aldi Lacura Caviar Illumination Day Cream, £6.99
The importance of sunscreen should never be underestimated, and this day cream has SPF 15 with UVA & UVB protection. The Fragrance: The whole range has a clean, clinical smell. It's not overbearing, as some skincare with expensive ingredients tends to be. Texture: The cream feels silky, it glides on and sinks in well. You could put your make-up on top without feeling caked. However, it's quite thick. My theory is that it's aimed at mature, dryer skin. I have an oily, acne-prone complexion (the joy) and have to go for an oil-free moisturiser for daytime.Overall: The day cream was a bit too thick for my liking, but would be fine for normal/dry skin. Rating: 3/5
Lacura Caviar Sheet Mask 3 Pack, £3.99
A caviar-infused sheet mask that's designed to dial up your evening regime and really hydrate and nourish skin. The Fragrance: Again, this mask has a clean, clinical smell that's not overpowering. Texture: It's loaded with serum like many premium products and is really refreshing to apply. Overall: I'd definitely recommend this mask, it fits comfortably, feels really refreshing and gives skin a glow-y boost. Rating: 4/5
Aldi Lacura Caviar Night Cream, £6.99
The night cream contains Pro-Vitamin B5 to help soothe and repair skin. Texture: Unexpectedly, I found this to be thinner than the day cream. I prefer this already. The Effect: In the morning, my skin felt hydrated and soft. My make-up seems to go on better, probably because my skin isn't dry like usual.Overall: I much prefer this to the day cream, I was impressed by this and would have believed you if you told me it was a luxury product that cost £50.Rating: 4/5
Aldi Lacura Caviar 7 Day Intensive, £7.99
A highly concentrated 7-day skincare regime for day and night. The ampoules promise to hydrate and help skin that has been put under additional stress. Texture: Like a serum, these phials feel luxurious and hydrating.Effect: The instructions say to empty a whole phial into the palm of your hands and massage it into the skin. Maybe I have a small face, but the amount of product is very generous. Luckily, the phial when tipped upside down dispenses a little at a time, so you don't have to use it all up. Overall: I'm impressed by these, I like that there is one for the day and one for the night. For £7.99 this is a bargain.Rating: 4/5
What ingredients are in Lacura's Caviar range?
So, why is caviar the star ingredient of the collection? Caviar extract is rich in protein, vitamins and minerals and reportedly tackles signs of ageing. The skincare range also contains snow algae extract and hyaluronic acid. Snow algae has been clinically proven to extend the life of skin cells and is said to trigger stem cells to replicate and replace damaged cells and in turn, rejuvenate the skin. Hyaluronic acid can hold 1000x its weight in water making it a key ingredient for hydration and maintaining the skin's elasticity.
