If you've got dry, damaged or colour-treated hair, we're guessing you've heard of Olaplex. The world-famous hair treatment system launched a few years ago and revolutionised the way we care for our hair - thanks to its unique bond repairing technology.
While there's no denying that Olaplex is nothing short of brilliant, if you start adding all of the brand's shampoos, conditioners, masks and treatments into your basket then you can quickly rack up a hefty hair bill. Enter Mark Hill's brand new and affordable range.
The Hair Lab by Mark Hill Bond Repair Haircare Range aims to reverse signs of damage caused by styling, colouring, chemicals and heat. Sure, the name is a bit of a mouthful but the best news is that it's more affordable than a lot of the big-players out there and the products really work.
'Bond Repair is a step-by-step treatment that contains the unique KERA-CREATHANOL COMPLEX to restore lost moisture by seeking out broken bonds,' says Mark Hill. 'Having worked on clients for over 30 years, I have long understood the importance of maintaining the hair's internal bonds to maintain strength, protect and restore. These are the most advanced formulations my chemists and I have ever created.'
How do bond-repairing hair products actually work?
There are a few bond-repair hair systems available, but how do they work and are they all created equally?
Inside each hair follicle, there are hundreds of bonds that link together to give your hair its strength. Every day our hair goes through processes that damage and weaken these bonds - from brushing and blowdrying, to colouring and chemically treating the hair. Maintaining the strength of these internal bonds is important when it comes to keeping our hair strong, shiny and healthy.
The new Mark Hill Hair Lab system works to reverse broken and weak bonds, leaving hair visibly stronger and healthier. The two bonds that have the greatest impact if broken are:
Hydrogen bonds
There are more hydrogen bonds in your hair than any other. These break each time your hair becomes wet, and reform when dry. They also break and reform when you apply heat. These are the bonds you are shaping when you style your hair.
Disulphide bonds
These are the strongest bonds and give your hair its natural movement. The only way you can break these bonds is by chemical treatments such as perms, relaxers and colours. You can also damage these disulphide bonds by using excessive heat (it’s the sulphur in these bonds which gives burning hair that horrid smell!)
Mark Hill's Bond Repair range contains a unique combination of ingredients (known as Kera-Creathanol Complex) which help to reform broken bonds. Keravis helps to increase strength and resistance, Creatine rebuilds and strengthens the hair's structure from within and Panthanol Pro-Vitamin B5 penetrates deep within the hair follicle and provides long-lasting moisture - for soft, silky locks.
