Kim Kardashian is never one to shy away fringe a hair transformation. After briefly flirting with platinum blonde and thenhoney blonde, she has returned to her naturally dark lengths which will forever remind us of the early KUWTK era, but that's not the only hair trend that she's resurrecting. At the opening of her SKIMS Valentine's Day pop-up, Kim debuted curtain bangs, but not as we know them.

Since the rise of the style in lockdown 1.0, curtain bangs have been the big, voluminous and sultry companion to the nostalgic hair trends of the moment - we mean the mullet, the shag, the wolf cut and everything in between. Common to all of them are curtain bangs, a hair trend that shows no signs of waning especially now that Kim is on board.

The 42-year-old's go-to hair guru Chris Appleton showcased the hair update on TikTok, saying 'We cut curtain bangs - what do you guys think?,' but on close inspection you'll find that Kim's new generation take on the look is far more subtle, angular and sharper than the wide, bouncy, '70s shape we've become accustomed to. Reminiscent of the noughties bang, this isn't the first time Kim has rocked the style.

When Kim first hit the media scene as a young LA socialite in 2006, a feathered fringe was commonplace and often swept to the side. Straightened and tapered from cheekbone to jawline, the look is nothing like its bouncy modern sister, but Kim certainly makes a case for the style with her new hair update. In pictures posted to Instagram, she ruffles her hair up before slicking it back, proving in one deft gesture that her new bangs look just as great when styled in an undone updo as they do blow-dried down.

For anyone looking for a low key entry point into curtain bangs, Kim's take on the style is a box-ticker.
