He was almost unrecognisable.

If you thought seeing Robert Pattinson as Batman would be the most surprising thing to come from the The Batman trailer this weekend, you’d be mistaken. Because, a familiar face from EastEnders cropped up, although you might just have missed it.

Former EastEnders actor Alex Ferns, who played Trevor Morgan on the soap, appeared in the trailer as the leader of Gotham City Police Department. Looking gruffer than ever, the Scottish actor may have left the soap way back in 2002, but his role as abusive rapist Trevor has never been forgotten.

Playing Commissioner Pete Savage in the new Batman film, he appears alongside fan favourite Zoe Kravitz – another notable trailer feature – who is playing Catwoman. Colin Farrell also appears in the film, remarkably even more unrecognisable than Ferns, playing Oswald Cobblepot – also known as Penguin.

But of course, UK fans are most in awe of seeing the man that made headlines for his role on their nightly soap appear in such a highly-awaited Hollywood film.

‘The fact that Trevor from EastEnders of Moe [sic] and Trevor fame is what impressed me most about the Batman trailer. Theeee Trevor Morgan ?!' one social media user tweeted.

'So it looks as though THE BATMAN will face off against his deadliest adversary yet......TREVOR FROM EASTENDERS,' another added. '(My advice? Hit him with an iron.)'

The Batman is scheduled to be released on the 1st October in the US and UK, with it's initial June release pushed back because of the Covid-19 pandemic. According to reports, a spin-off TV series is also in the works on HBO Max. So you never know, if Fearns' appearance has gone down this well with fans, we may see him reprise his role on a regular basis appearing on our TVs routinely once more.

While we're yet to see where his morals lie in the film (will he be with or against Batman?!) it's safe to say we'll prefer him in this than we did as the evil Trevor. Although, let's hope we're not speaking too soon.
