Robert Pattinson was already the shock casting for the new Batman, and now it’s been revealed that Zoë Kravitz{ =nofollow}will join the actor in the fresh take on the DC superhero film. The Big Little Lies star will play Selina Kyle, and her alter ego, alongside R-Patz in the flick which will be directed by Matt Reeves.

It's been reported that the actress went through a rigorous casting process, alongside other actresses Ana de Armas, Ella Balinska and Eiza González. Kravitz follows in the footsteps of Halle Berry and Michelle Pfeiffer, who have previously played the character.

Kravitz was congratulated on bagging the part by Aquaman star Jason Momoa, who is married to her mother Lisa Bonet. He wrote that it was ‘unbelievable’ and he was ‘so freaking stoked’ about the role. Confirming the news, she replied, ‘LOVE YOU PAPABEAR! Love that Aquaman and Catwomen spend the holidays together from now on.’

Kravitz had previously auditioned for Christopher Nolan's The Dark Knight Rises, which featured Anne Hathaway as Catwoman. She told Nylon in 2015, ‘In the last Batman movie [The Dark Knight Rises], they told me that I couldn’t get an audition for a small role they were casting because they weren’t "going urban."'

Speaking about the new film, The Batman, Reeves told The Hollywood Reporter{ =nofollow}earlier this year, 'It’s very much a point of view-driven, noir Batman tale. It’s told very squarely on his shoulders, and I hope it’s going to be a story that will be thrilling but also emotional. It’s more Batman in his detective mode than we’ve seen in the films. The comics have a history of that. He’s supposed to be the world’s greatest detective, and that’s not necessarily been a part of what the movies have been.'

Sources suggest The Batman will begin production late this year or early 2020. It's been confirmed the film will be released in summer 2021.
