An online marketing company has estimated the earnings of the 2018 cohort of Australian Love Island contestants, currently airing on ITV2 in replacement of our usual Love Island season, and found a huge love island pay gap between UK and international contestants.
According to Reboot Online Marketing Company, Australian contestants could earn up to £25,600 per Instagram post depending on their popularity after the season airs in the UK. In comparison to the UK’s most successful islander, Molly-Mae Hague, this is more than double she is estimated to earn per post at £11,360.
Analysing data from Influencer Marketing Hub’s Instagram earnings tool, the marketing company looked at what the Australian contestants currently earn per post (following the 2018 series airing in Australia), how their followings will grow as it airs in the UK and their estimated earnings when it concludes. Of course, this is heavily reliant on the Australian series currently airing on ITV2 being as popular as our usual new season – which if social media is anything to go by, it’s not.
Apparently, when Love Island airs in the UK each summer, contestants followings grow by near 15% per every day they spend in the villa (guess that explains why so many refuse to leave when their so-called love is booted off). So, looking at the most popular Australian islander, Tayla Damir, who currently has a following of over 430,000 – she is set to build to over 6.3million by the end of the season. Only then do her estimated earnings grow from £1,706 per post to £25,601 per post. Currently, Molly-Mae Hague has 4.2million followers and went into the villa with 150,000.
The rest of the Australian islanders are unlikely to see any kind of that financial success though, with Josh Moss – who has 280,000 followers currently – the second highest estimated earner at £19,300 when the season ends and Erin Barnett raking in over £15,600 per post. After that, the rest of the islanders are estimated to earn below £10k, with John James Parton – who has 67,000 followers, the lowest predicted earner at £943 per post.
However, this is still a big gap between what the UK islanders from 2019 – the last comparably popular season – are estimated to earn. After Molly-Mae, the highest earner is Tommy Fury at £8,348 per post – already lower than the top four most successful Australian contestants.
However, the gap isn’t as wide between contestants, with the lowest earner per post estimated to be Francesca Allen at £2,039. It’s worth noting though, this is only in relation to their paid partnership posts on Instagram, not their brand deals with fashion companies and the like. Allen, for example, has a clothing line with In The Style as well as her usual sponsorships.
And in the instance of Molly-Mae, who has deals with Pretty Little Thing and Beauty Works and her own false tan line, Filter by Molly-Mae, she only tends to do adverts in relation to those brand deals as oppose to singular paid posts with random companies.
It’s the 2020 Islanders that truly face the biggest gap though, with their predicted highest earner – Siânnise Fudge – estimated to take in £4,905 per post. So, if we take on thing from this it’s to always star in the Summer series, if it returns to us next year. At least if you don’t leave with love you’ll leave with better earning potential when you sell out to flog charcoal toothpaste and air fresheners.

Maura Higgins and Curtis Pritchard - SPLIT
Probably one of the most shocking Love Island recouplings was definitely Maura and Curtis. Against all odds the pair made it to the final and weeks after leaving the villa they became an official couple. But it wasn't to be. The pair lasted eight months after the series.
India Reynolds and Ovie Soko - SPLIT
Ovie and India have definitely been the most successful bombshells of all time. The basketball player entered the villa during Casa Amor and India joined the show just weeks before the final. Needless to say, we were obsessed with them but they've since called it quits.
Belle Hassan and Anton Danyluk - SPLIT
Belle and Anton just missed out on the Love Island final and didn't seem to be spending a whole lot of time together back in the UK. Sure enough they split after five weeks, with Belle reportedly freaked out by his Craig David obsession. Michael left us - and the villa - shook when he decided to recouple with Joanna, leaving Amber single. Despite the awkwardness, Michael and Joanna seemed to kind of be working - until she was dumped from the island and then he said he still has feelings for Amber. He was then dumped from the villa and Joanna was then spotted 'kissing' Michael at a festival. There was a lot going on, ok.
Lucie Donlan and Joe Garratt - SPLIT
Lucie and Joe had a rough time in the Love Island villa, especially after thesandwich maker was accused of 'gaslighting' his other half. Luckily post-villa they managed to work through all the drama and are now in a relationship.
Paige Turley and Finn Tapp
The winners of the first winter Love Island are still together, thank you very much. (They really are a cute couple.) Finn made the six-hour drive to Paige's house in West Lothian, Scotland just before lockdown happened. She has since even cut his hair in lockdown.
Siannise Fudge and Luke Trotman
Another of our all time favourite couples, Luke and Siannise are so loved up that they now live together in London. We fully expect them to get married - and we want to be invited, tbh.
Luke Mabbott and Demi Jones - SPLIT
Three months after the series, the pair split as Demi said Luke didn't make an effort to text her during lockdown. Oh. 'With lockdown, it drove us apart and we live so far away from each other,' she told MailOnline. 'I feel like there wasn't a lot of effort made with communication, so we drifted as a result.'
Jess Gale and Ched Uzor - SPLIT
The pair are still good friends, but like Demi and Luke, they just couldn't make it work during lockdown. Damn.
Nas Majeed and Eva Zapico - SPLIT
Nas Majeed and Eva Zapico are still happy together following Casa Amor, with Nas denying rumours that they'd split earlier in lockdown. From Nas' Instagram, it looks like they've been going on socially distanced dates.
