OK, so we know we’re all social-distancing right now and binge-watching all of our favourite TV shows – but is there something fishy about Paris Hilton only posting re-runs of The Simple Lifeon her Instagram?! Is it just us or… is she trying to tease something?
Hear us out: in the last 24 hours Paris has posted six videos of The Simple Life on Instagram. Not just on Stories, oh no… on her actual grid. That’s commitment to the cause. Now, there’s been no official word of a reboot – but she is hashtagging #TheSimpleLife and #ParisAndNicole on every post. If that isn’t a social media PR campaign we don’t know what is.
Paris has opened up about the potential for a reboot before but she seems to go back and forth. She tweeted last year that she was too busy and she told Too Fab that it’s too ‘timeless’ to be remade.
However, in an interview with Cosmopolitan she let slip that she was asked to recommend who would be a good replacement for her if the show was remade. So who did she suggest? ‘I can’t tell! I’ve signed a confidentiality agreement,’ she said at the time. ‘I don’t think it’ll ever be what it was, but it will be fun to watch other people do it.’
Most recently, Paris has been mentoring YouTuber Tana Mongeau – who is often described as the Gen Z Paris. Now, Tana already has her own reality show, Tana Turns 21, on MTV – but could she be involved in a The Simple Life reboot? She has the best-friend lookalike, Ashly Schwan to match, so it wouldn’t be too far a stretch to assume Paris could have suggested her.
With no confirmation from Paris or producers of The Simple Life themselves, there’s no way to know – but considering the endless throwback videos and hashtagging, we can’t help but think there’s more to this than a little self-isolation nostalgia.
