This year, getting into Love Island has felt like a long, hard slog. With drama only just picking up near a month in, it’s no wonder many viewers have missed entire weeks of the show – let alone single episodes – with most of us struggling to keep up the way we used to.
Saturday was our sacred day then, the one day of the week Love Island wasn’t airing as normal. We could relax and socialise safely in the knowledge that we won’t have yet another episode to catch up on. Usually, it’s the one day you get out the house but secretly miss the show – this year, it’s bliss.
But actually, this year Saturday is proving to be the very day you SHOULD be watching Love Island. Because while the typical show isn’t airing, Love Island: Unseen Bits is. An hour of summing up what’s happened that week in the villa, Unseen Bits shows clips of the islanders outside of their usual ‘chats’.
Essentially, they’re what Love Island used to be before producers seemingly convinced islanders to go for weirdly contrived conversations about couplings they truly do not care for and made us watch them one after the other for an hour. From titbits of hilarious conversations to random games the islanders play to keep busy, Unseen Bits lets us see their actual personalities beyond awkward chats about whether or not they actually like each other. Even Lucinda Strafford has a lot to say.
One couple that is absolute proof of this is Millie Court and Liam Reardon. In last night’s episode, it appears viewers are slowly starting to love their new relationship – but for weeks the only commentary we’ve seen on them is how ‘boring’ they are.
In the main show, all we ever got to see of Millie and Liam was their chats about fancying each other – and to be honest, how much they wanted to shag. Thus, viewers were led to believe it was all lust and infatuation, a quick holiday romance that would cool off as soon as the cameras turned off and they got the sexual tension out of their system. We barely saw them outside of that, leading many to believe they didn’t have much else to say to each other.
But actually, watching Unseen Bits, Millie and Liam are far from the ‘boring’ couple they’ve been portrayed as on the main show. Clips of their interactions have started gaining traction on TikTok and Twitter, with viewers finally seeing, they have a lot more in common than sexual attraction.
