Jodie Comer won best actress at the BAFTAs for her part as Villanelle in Killing Eve - and now she’s just bagged the top award at the Emmys. At last night’s ceremony in Los Angeles, the Liverpudlian took home outstanding lead actress in a drama series for her role as the assassin, beating co-star Sandra Oh who played spy Eve.
While it’s unsurprising Jodie was crowned best actress, she couldn’t believe her luck when Gwyneth Paltrow called her name, as she revealed in her acceptance speech that she didn’t even invite her parents - because she didn’t think she’d get the accolade. Winning with grace, the actress also gave a shout-out to her co-starSandra saying: ‘Safe to say, Sandra, that this Killing Eve journey has been an absolute whirlwind.’
In the category, the star was also against Emilia Clarke (as Game of Thrones’ Daenerys Targaryen), Viola Davis (as How to Get Away With Murder’s Annalise Keating), Laura Linney (as Ozark’s Wendy Byrde), Mandy Moore (as This Is Us’ Rebecca Pearson) and Robin Wright (as House of Cards’ Claire Underwood).
Killing Eve earned a total of nine Emmy nominations this year.
