To say it was a big night for Fleabag at theEmmys{ =nofollow}would be an understatement, as the show picked up a staggering four awards at the American TV awards. The ceremony, which happened last night in Los Angeles, saw creator Phoebe Waller-Bridge win best leading comedy actress and best comedy writing, with the series - which was nominated for 11 awards - also crowned outstanding comedy series. Fleabag director Harry Bradbeer was also awarded best directing for a comedy series.

Phoebe collected her Emmys in typical Fleabag style, saying it was ‘wonderful’ that ‘a dirty, pervy, angry messed up woman can make it to the Emmys.’ Receiving her first award, she told the crowd: ‘I find writing really hard and really painful but the reason I do it is this. So thank you so much. It’s just really wonderful to know and reassuring that a dirty, pervy, angry messed up woman can make it to the Emmys so thank you so much.’

And, by the time Fleabag was awarded outstanding comedy series, it still sounded like PWB couldn’t believe her luck, with the star telling the audience that the wins were getting 'ridiculous'. ‘Fleabag started as a one woman show at Edinburgh festival in 2014,' she exclaimed. 'The journey has been absolutely mental to get here.’

Best of all, the creator then showed her love to The Hot Priest{ =nofollow}, Andrew Scott (who sadly wasn’t nominated for his performance in the series). ‘This is about season two,’ she gushed. ‘It would not have happened if it was not for Andrew Scott, who came into our Fleabag as a whirlwind and he gave a performance with such depth and integrity that blew us all away. Fleabag says thanks.’

Obviously, the internet was delighted at the actress’ touching shoutout, with one fan tweeting, ‘Thrilled for all the #Fleabag love but still demand #JusticeforHotPriest and so happy PWB used a significant chunk of her speech to dedicate it to Andrew Scott's brilliant performance.’ We just wish there was a chance of season three happening.
