If there’s one thing Love Island has taught us, it’s the importance of a man bringing you a refreshment in the morning. Curtis Pritchard famously wanted to be the knight in shining armour who handed everyone their caffeine fix and, this series, Ekin-Su was reduced to tears after Davide neglected to make her an oat milk latte.
But despite small morning gestures meaning the world of difference to many relationships, the internet was left horrified by one couple’s morning ritual that went viral on TikTok this week.
Posting a video of her boyfriend, the user @innercartographie shared: ‘He just woke me up with a fresh coconut, took my basal body temperature for my natural cycle charting and is feeding me jackfruit in bed. [He] has a French accent. My inner 13-year-old fangirl has no idea how to handle this.’
There’s a lot to unpack here. First things first, a coconut (however refreshing) is not caffeine. And, for most of us, without our morning hit, there’ll be hell to pay. Secondly, a basal body temperature check?! This is essentially to predict when you’re going to ovulate—something slightly intense for a boyfriend you met last week (yes, you read that right) to do.
Then, let’s move onto the jackfruit. Specifically, jackfruit in bed. The tough skin, the sticky sap covering the inside... Please, someone think of the sheets.
‘I’m sorry but this sounds like hell on earth,’ wrote one Twitter user. ‘He’s making sure you’re healthy so he can harvest your organs,’ joked another. ‘If he didn’t analyze her cervical mucus too it isn’t real love,’ added a third while someone else concluded: ‘I’ll take the French accent and leave the rest.’
In response to the internet’s reaction @innercartographie cleared up in a subsequent video: ‘I want to be a doula… so this is nothing for me. For other people, it might be much but, for me, I have to go deep immediately because I can’t answer the question “what do you do” without talking about bodies.'
