Break-ups can be hard enough— telling friends and family that it didn’t work out, deciding who gets the cat, moving into a studio apartment, and perhaps worst of all, splitting up your combined things. One Toronto couple who are currently finalising their divorce are only now learning this lesson, and it’s made all the more difficult by one very valuable shared possession— tickets to Taylor Swift’s highly lauded Eras Tour.
Few can forget the surge we saw back in 2023 of people trying to get their hands on Eras Tour tickets, it was a virtual bloodbath with some fans paying thousands for a single ticket to the show. Even now, some resale tickets on StubHub are listed for £10,000 each, and even more bizarrely, people are actually buying them. So, imagine you’ve forked out for a ticket back in 2023 with your partner, only for your separation to end up getting in the way.
An unnamed Canadian couple are going through this very nightmare scenario, and we have no doubt that the fight is getting heated. The issue was made even more challenging considering there was a ticking clock— the Eras Tour hits Toronto on November 14, 15, 16, 21, 22, and 23, and the matter had to be resolved before then.
Jane Cvijan, Senior Legal Counsel with M & Co. Law, has sympathy for her clients. She said, ‘In this case, because of the very specific concert that we are dealing with, the actual market value was going to be so much more than what the couple actually purchased the tickets for.’
The firm presented the couple with three options, all of which no Swiftie would be completely satisfied with. Their choices were they could attend the concert together, one person could buy the tickets off the other for the current market value, or they could sell both tickets and split the proceeds. Since the firm can’t disclose what option the couple opted for due to attorney-client privilege, it’s anyone’s guess what they chose— maybe keep an eye out for a disgruntled couple in the crowd at the Toronto Eras concert. Cvijan did confirm, however, that it was an outcome that both parties were happy with.
Spending hundreds if not thousands of pounds on tickets would be difficult enough without your ex-husband standing right next to you during Shake It Off, but it would give Bad Blood an extra bit of drama. The only upside of this whole situation is the internet catching wind of the situation and fans making their own Taylor Swift puns, with one accurately tweeting, 'Cause they are never ever ever getting back together.'
Sarah O'Byrne is a News and Entertainment writer for Grazia, and if she had the money she'd have gladly bought this couple's Eras tickets.
