There are certain viral videos you may smirk at, those that inspire a gleeful giggle and then there are those you sit opened mouthed before raising a glass screaming YAAAS into the abyss. At least, that’s what we did when we first saw the Twitter video of a woman robbing her muggers moped.
In what may be the best switcheroo scam of all time, proven by the near half a million likes and 22 million views, the video shows a woman walking glacially along on an unidentified street before a seemingly random man pulls up beside her on his moped. He jumps off, grabs her bag from her shoulder and attempts to run away.
But in this instance, the woman realises her greatest defence is her slick mind, and decides to throw the bag into the distance. As her mugger goes to run for it, she jumps on his bike and drives away.
The woman tries to keep hold of her bag and struggles with him – which, we should warn is the absolute last thing you should do when getting mugged, just drop the bag and run. Seriously.
Honestly, iconic. So iconic it almost looks scripted, which is of course what many are accusing in the comments. ‘I can’t help but think this was staged tho,’ one commentator replies – to which another, whom we also now stan, responds ‘it’s just supposed to be funny’. Which, we can’t help but agree with.
The video could full well be staged, and we'll keep up updated if we get any more news about its provenance. But for now we’re choosing to believe this is a perfect example of a woman bamboozling her mugger.
With the current state of the world, it’s just nice to believe Queens like this exist and actually win. They return home on their new moped, declare all their belongings stolen and wait for that insurance cheque to buy some boots to go alongside their new ride. Maybe she lights a cigarette and lounges on the sofa in the silk robe she stole from the last person who wronged her, cackling at all the other vile men she’s fooled that day.
That’s what we’re going with anyway, because scripted or not, this video absolutely brightened up our dreary Monday morning.
